Quoted from the Daily Comet.
“forecasts that hinge on how high oil prices rise above current levels of about $50 a barrel.”

If the price of oil stays low so will the chances of an uptick in work in the Gulf.

Wish we could all predict the future, but since we can’t I thought I would share the best news in the area for 2019. We can only take 1 day at a time. A mariner stayed at my B&B this week and was hired, so I would say that is a good start as well. No, it is not 2014, but it will take time to ever come back. Wishing you all the very best in 2019. And, as always, if I can be of help to anyone, remember, I offer a discounted rate of $75/night to mariners looking for work and/or taking classes in the area at Faulk Alford, LAMPI (LE Fletcher) or Marine Training Institute (DP Classes) all in Houma, LA

Call me at 985 537-6773 or email me at claudettelp@charter.net to make your reservations.

I have a mariner staying here for 2 weeks, right now, taking the Celestial Navigation class at RelyOnNutec and he happens to be someone I helped get a job in 2014. Nice to see return mariners and keep up with their progress.

I agree AHTS Master. It has only just begun!! But, it is looking better and better everyday. Almost all of the companies are hiring all positions. It’s advertised, daily. Time will tell, but many are optimistic, here.

There is a big difference between running ads every week for all positions with a discounted bulk ad buy, and actually hiring a significant number of people in all positions.

As far as Tugboat jobs outside the Gulf go, there is nice uptick. Improved business conditions and retirements seem to be driving it.

Harvey is hiring as many qualified people as they can right now. This I know for a fact.

The guys who keep quitting Harvey are going to other companies so they are hiring just as much.

Lot of boats coming out of stack that need crews.

That is my understanding, also, Jemplayer. I can only share the good news. Lots happening down here on the bayou. I had a mariner stay at my B&B about a month, ago, that got hired with Harvey Gulf. He was a mariner that got a job with ECO many years, back, when he stayed here. He worked himself all the way to an Unlimited Master. Another 3rd Mate Unlimited stayed here a few weeks, back and got hired at ECO as an AB. Again, if I can be of help to any of you, I still offer a discounted rate of $75/night to mariners looking for work and/or taking classes in the area at Faulk Safety, now called RelyOnNutec or Marine Training Institute (DP Classes) all in Houma, LA. A mariner that is staying here now taking Celestial Navigation at RelyOnNutec in Houma told me the classes are all filled with people taking many different classes.

If anyone is looking to take celestial, I would highly recommend taking the course with Bill at falck (now called RelyOn Nutec) in Houma. Excellent instructor. I believe they have a class coming up in June. I also had the opportunity to stay with Miss Claudette @A_Chateau_on_the_Bay. I had stayed at her BB in 2014 while looking for work on OSVs. I have since moved on from OSVs but remembered her great deal she offers for mariners in the area looking for work or taking classes. Brought back some good memories. Top notch experience all around.
