Knocking on Doors in Louisiana
Listen to Jemplayer, this is just the calm before the storm.
I hope he is correct.

A company called Jackson marine in Belle Chasse that runs crewboats is building two 250 footers and C & E boat rentals is building a 200ft, still a 99ton boat.

thanks for all the info.

Any Chance of a Mom & Pop Company hiring an AB-Unlimited for 28-60 days as a TEMP? I do not need any benefits
Hope one of those cooks is coming to the Carolyn!
They’re sending me to the Gary Chouest supposedly. Sorry.

What are you going on there as? My brother is os on there

I’m going to be shadowing the cook until Scott can get me on a boat that needs me.

Well, another great day here on the Bayou;
One of my guests checked in on Sunday and went to the Bieir Radio school in Belle Chasse this week for his Basic DP training.
He finished this morning, went down to ECO, met with Nicky Collins and was hired as a mate on an anchor handling vessel.
He will begin Orientation training this Tuesday and go out on a boat next week.
He said he is “pumped”; very happy for him.
It can happen for you, too.
By the way, Harvey Gulf hired a maritime academy guy as a mate this morning, too.
He took the DP training class at Bieir Radio school this week, also.
It’s been a great week here.
Best to all of you.

As my mariner guests went out today, knocking on doors, they learned that Harvey Gulf and C&G boats are both presently loooking for AB’s.
Just another bit of info that may help someone.

How are things looking for QMEDs? I will have completed my RFPEW endorsement via MAMA by the middle of next month. I just finished BST. I’d love to come down and door knock while staying at the lovely Chateau. Thanks!

On Jan. 14, I posted this statement, below, on this thread regarding QMED’s.

“Nicky Collins at ECO hired 4 QMeds, 1 unlicensed engineer, 2 cooks, and 1 AB this morning.”

Word has been that many companies are in need of engineers.
Complete your endorsements and come on down to Bayou Lafourche.
Would be happy to have you as a guest at my B&B when you decide to make it happen.
Best wishes.

Thanks Claudette.

That’s music to my ears. Best wishes. I’ll call as soon as I have a better idea of where I’m headed.

Another guest checked in on Sunday, interviewed with Nicky Collins on Monday and was hired on as a mate.
Went through physical yesterday, needed an orthropedic appt. and agility test for a past knee surgery, so held up his training for this week.
But, very happy mariner who will begin employment with ECO soon.

Another mariner checked in on Sunday, shy of his 500 ton master, was told by Nicky to check in again at the end of this week to see if he had something for him.

Another mariner that checked in last week was hired by ECO as a mate, but has had issues with the physical.
Had to see a cardiologist, orthropedic surgeon because of past hip replacement, etc. so this has held up his training, also.

Please remember to bring all of your past records of any surgeries, etc. so as not to hold up the process.
Make sure your blood pressure is in check if you are on blood pressure meds, etc.

People are definitely getting hired right now.
If I can be of help to any of you in providing nice, affordable lodging while in the area looking for work or going to school at (LAMPI) LE Fletcher in Houma, Bieir Radio school for DP in Belle Chasse, Lafourche Merchant Marine in Raceland, Alford Safety in Houma, or Houston Marine in Kenner, please let me know.
I do provide a discouted rate for mariners of $60/ night with 1 person in a room.

Wishing you all the very best.

I might know the guy with the hip. I hope he gets in because I might join him after I get my 500.

Another mariner checked in today that was hired at ECO on Monday as an OS.
He is in the orientation classes this week.
Not happy with Chouest free housing or Galliano Inn at $85/night.
Someone referred him to my B&B.
Nice to have him as a guest.

3 mariners got hired on as OS at ECO yesterday.
Another guy was hired on as a 1600 ton captain at ECO.
All went through physicals today, successfully.
Will return for orientation on Feb. 11 when school takes back in.
Best wishes to all of you.

Well, Super Bowl guests have checked out!
Two mariners are still here from last week.
One still studying with Capt. Bruce at LE Fletcher (LAMPI) in Houma for his 1600 Ton prep class.
Another completed the DP class at Bieir Radio in Belle Chasse, last week.
The one that completed DP school got hired, today, at Gulfmark of Americas in St. Rose as a mate.
He begins his orientation and rigging classes tomorrow.
Another maritime academy guy that took the DP class, last week, got hired at Gulfmark of Americas, today, as a mate, also.
One young guy checked in on Sunday; he is looking for an OS job.
He got an offer today from 1 company, but plans to check out more companies, while here, before making a final decision.
Have a great week.

Another great week at “A Chateau on the Bayou B&B”!!!
The OS that checked in on Sunday took a job with LaBorde Marine in Morgan City, today.
The Calif. maritime graduate took an apprentice mate position with Harvey Gulf, today.
And, GulfMark hired a 3rd engineer from Kings Point and housed him at my B&B tonight.
It’s been a great week having all of these very nice guys as guests.
Tonight they are all happy campers!!!
All going out to dinner and celebrate.
Best wishes to all of you,

That’s awesome news Claudette!!! :+1:

Just wanted to let you know Claudette, reading your posts makes me depressed. I’ve been trying to get hired by just about every osv company, I feel like I’ve done everything short of actually knocking on their door. I’ve applied multiple times, called and talked to the companies, and I’ve even sent in a hard copy of my résumé

Hey Jackass- This thread is titled “KNOCKING ON DOORS IN LOUISIANA”… Maybe you should do just that! Nothing else seems to have worked, right? Jeez.
