Knocking on Doors in Louisiana

Hornbeck told me that I was one out of 2,000 applicants this year for an OS job and they only hire 4 or 5 OS a year (seems like a small number right?) and whenever they do need OS they just get them from their apprentice program.

Great news, today, from “A Chateau on the Bayou B&B”

One of my guests, from last week, who sat in the ECO office on Friday, waiting to see if an AB spot would become available on a boat returned early this morning and got that position.
He called to tell me his good news, that he had gone through the physical and was starting orientation tomorrow morning.
ECO hired 2 AB’s, today, that I know of, that will be starting orientation tomorrow morning.

Will keep you posted on the 3 guys that checked in, Sunday, looking for work this week.
One mariner is going to school at the ECO training center.
And, a couple from France will be here for 4 nights.

As always, I provide a discounted rate of $65/night which includes a deluxe continental breakfast consisting of bagels, toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal bars, protein bars, ham and cheese muffins, grits, oatmeal, banana bread/cinnamon rolls, cereal and milk, juice, coffeee, tea, bottled water, etc.

A regular rate of $110/ night includes a full breakfast served at 8:30, 9:00, or 9:30 which is posted on my website.

Keep in mind, that check-in is from 3:00 till 7:00 p.m. (no early or late check-ins, please)

If I can be of help to any of you in providing nice, affordable lodging while knocking on doors in louisiana or going to school in the area, please email me at claudettelp@charter.net, PM, or call (985) 537-6773

Did you end up hearing anything? Do you have your rfpnw??
Did you end up hearing anything? Do you have your rfpnw??
He is the guy mentioned right above by ms. Claudette who got hired at eco.

Thanks Mrs. Claudette, I had a good feeling last week when I stayed at your place, I knew if it didn’t happen last week , it will be soon, well I decided to comeback Monday instead of calling Wednesday so I booked a flight, left south Florida at 5am and arrive at ECO at 10:35 am, at 10:55 I was on my way to get my physical. I start training tomorrow.

Good on ya, grab the bull by the horns and make shit happen, rather than sitting on the sidelines wringing your hands wondering why life is passing you by.

The harder I work the luckier I get.

Good job!

Tico05,
I am so happy for you!!!
You have a great attitude and understanding about how the hiring process works down here.
There is no certain season, quarter, etc about when hiring takes place.
It’s all about “supply and demand” and "being in the right place at the right time"
You made it all happen.
You perservered and didn’t give up.
Some people don’t spend enough time being here, so they can’t ever make it happen.
Best wishes to you.
Look forward to seeing you, again.

Great news from “A Chateau on the Bayou B&B”, again, today.

Another one of the mariners that stayed with me, last week, just called to tell me he got hired as an OS at Elevated Boats, Inc in Houma, this morning.
He took the initative to pay and get his Safe Gulf class completed on Friday at Falck Alford in Houma.
This company preferred that he take this course on his own.

Elevated Boats, Inc has 3 new lift boats and needs to fill all positions.
So, if this fits your needs, make it happen!!!

Best wishes to all of you, once again.

It’s a great week at "A Chateau on the Bayou B&B"
One mariner that got hired, last week, as an AB at ECO is, here, going through orientation classes and rigging.
Another mariner got hired at HOS (Hornbeck), yesterday, as an AB.
He will begin orientation, later.
The 3rd mariner was given a few offers as a 100 ton capt. on crewboats and utility boats, but has not made a final decision, yet.
Another mariner will check in later, today, with his wife who is an engineer.
He will be looking for an OS position to begin a career in the maritime industry.

It has been an absolute wonderful week and always a pleasure having mariners that are very nice, respectful, and appreciative.
Great group of guys!!!

Update from “A Chateau on the Bayou B&B” in Raceland, LA.
The 4th mariner, this week, found a job, today, as a deckhand with Marquette Transportation.
He went through the physical, drug test, and background check, today.
Is awaiting results on Monday.
Seems like every mariner, here, was successful in their search for work.

Well, it’s been another great week, here, at "A Chateau on the Bayou"
5 mariners checked in on Sunday.
One mariner got hired on with HOS as an AB, went through the physical, today, and will return for orientation classes in Dec.
Another mariner was hired as a Mate.
2 mariners got hired as OS’s.

Please do not come down expecting to get a job without your MMD papers.
You will not be hired without them in your hand.
I tried to tell 1 mariner this before he came down, but he insisted on coming, anyway, this week.
Needless to say, he was told the same thing by HR people.
I hate to see anyone waste their time and money.

Please remember to make reservations in advance to be assured of a room.
I had to turn down 3 people this week.

For those mariners who wanted more info regarding AB endorsement and STCW endorsement as RFPNW I have forwarded this info:

Quality Maritime Training:

If you have an Able Seaman (AB) endorsement, but have not yet completed the requirements for the STCW endorsement as Rating Forming Part of the Navigational Watch (RFPNW), beware.

Once the STCW 2010 amendments are in full swing and if you are working in an AB position without the RFPNW endorsement then you probably will NOT be eligible to work on vessels entering International Ports unless you also have the STCW endorsement for Able Seafarer-Deck (AS-D).

One cannot get the STCW AS-D endorsement without first having qualified and have the STCW endorsement for RFPNW. Most AB’s already have the qualifying sea service for RFPNW, they just need to complete the twenty-one RFPNW assessment, then apply for the STCW RFPNW endorsement.

At QMT we offer our RFPNW Assessment program 2-3 time monthly, where we assess you for RFPNW competency in our state-of-the-art SSH ship simulator. Don’t lose out on future job opportunities because you lack the new STCW AS-D endorsement.

Check out the NMC evaluator sheet and the USCG Able Seafarer-Deck Sea Service Requirements.

GOSH! Time flies!

It’s been extremely busy here at “A Chateau on the Bayou B&B” in Raceland, LA.
My B&B was chosen as a setting to make a few commercial shoots.
So, for the last week or so, I have had the filming crew and casts, here.

I was unable to provide lodging for some mariners requests.
But, everyone from the filming crew has checked out, today.
A couple of mariners will be checking in later, today; one going to fire fighting school at Delgado in NO and another looking for 100 ton capt job.

As always, I provide a discounted rate of $65/night which includes a deluxe continental breakfast consisting of bagels, toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal bars, protein bars, ham and cheese muffins, grits, oatmeal, banana bread/cinnamon rolls, cereal and milk, juice, coffeee, tea, bottled water, etc.
