Hi Claudette
Thanks for your hospitality last week and your advice on my job hunt. Don’t let some of the negative comments on here get you down. It was the info that you posted on line, week after week that gave me the encouragement to come to Louisiana and actually get a job.
It’s always a pleasure having guests like you at my B&B. Glad to know I could be of help to you in your job search.
I must not be the “other” she is referring to. Because as I lay in my modern hotel room in my super comfortable bed, private bathroom, cable TV, coffee maker and friendly not nosey front desk personnel I am very “pleased”.
If you don’t need the info that Ms Claudette shares here every week, then why even look? If you have not stayed there, why comment? It is funny how much of a critic people become when they can hide behind a screen name. I have stayed there, it is very nice, it is very reasonable. Ms. Claudette gave me some very good information and encouragement when I was looking for a job.
The bottom line is that her posts are valuable to your brother mariners seeking employment in the gulf. Repeating hearsay and gossip is slanderous and sophomoric.

Always, nice having you as a guest at my B&B.
Glad to know my help in your job search was much appreciated.
News this week, at A Chateau on the Bayou B&B", is once, again, very successful.
A maritime academy grad gets hired on with ECO as a training mate, today.
He will begin orientation next week.
2 ECO mariners stay here as they take Advanced Fire fighting at ECO training center.
Another mariner checked in today as he is taking RFPNW class at LAMPI in Houma.
Wishing you all the very best, as usual.

Thanks for the updates Claudette. It is always nice to know who is hiring and how our industry is doing.
First of all, thanks again Claudette. Your help and advice last week, along with the hospitality and being welcomed into your home was greatly appreciated. As someone else already mentioned, your posts in this forum and the regular updates about our fellow mariners seeking employment have been very helpful to me and my success in coming down to the bayou and getting a job.
Secondly, and adding to the above… I discovered gcaptain in late 2010, opened an account in early 2011, and as everyone can see, this is my first time to post. Everytime I’ve had a question that I haven’t been able to find an answer to elsewhere, I’ve used the search function here and been able to get an answer. Thanks to gcaptain and all the real “contributors”, great site and forum. Hopefully I can start contributing as well.

You are very welcome and certainly a very nice guest to have had at my B&B.
I look forward to seeing you and having you as a guest, again, very soon.
You made it happen and will do very well with this career.
This company will provide many opportunities for you to move up very quickly.
Best wishes to you.
Thats just it…because they can hide behind a screen name. Would they actually stand up in the light? Ha! I think not…
Well, since (as my wife reminds me) it’s not always all about me, it could be you’re referring to someone else. But just to be clear, I was merely asking a question that reflected my concern that too much personal information was being shared without the individuals’ permission. I then responded to another poster, confirming something he wrote – based on my recent, first-hand experience. I could have said a great deal more, but Ms. Pitre is just trying to make a living like the rest of us. Many obviously appreciate the accommodations, the rate, and the information. More power to 'em. And usmariner, I’m happy to stand in the light. Feel free to PM or email me any time.
Last week I stayed at the A Chateau on the Bayou for 3 nights while on spring break from school. As many have mentioned in previous posts It’s not for everyone. However, If you like a peaceful setting in which you can get a great nights sleep, sit on the porch and enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the bayou Lafourche flow by, and meet some great guys working and looking for work its a great place to stay. The last few hotels I’ve stayed at had loud guests in a room next to me or above me. For a only a few more dollars it was nice to stay in a nice home that was nice and quiet. If you want to go drinking and causing a ruckus its not a place for you, but if you want a nice home in which you can sleep well, study in a nice quiet home, sit out and watch the bayou, A Chateau on the Bayou is a great place. I will be staying there again in my future visits to the area.
Another great week here at “A Chateau on the Bayou”!!!
House full of very nice guests from all over the world.
4 mariners checked in on Sunday.
Mariner #1 is here for 26 days going to school in the area.
I have been working with his company now for 5 years and they pay for him to stay here.
Mariner #2 and #3 both came down in search of work and both have gotten jobs as of yesterday.
One took an AB job and another got a training mate position, both with great companies.
They are extremely happy after traveling miles to get here.
Mariner #4 is here, again; he stayed here 2 weeks, ago, when he got hired as an AB with ECO.
He returned to take the orientation classes this week.
There are 27 people in his class, so ECO picked up quite a few people last week.
Another mariner flew in from Hawaii, yesterday, and went out in search of work today.
Another mariner flies in today in search of work, also.
By the way, I thought I would share this company information with some of you that are interested in starting a career in this industry and getting your foot in the door.
Check out www.longneckerrigging.com
This company contracts out riggers for many marine operators.
This weekend, here, at my B&B, I will have 4 tourists from France and 2 from Oregon and 2 mariners who will get to experience the Paddle Bayou Lafourche event in my back yard on Saturday.
There will be 150 people from around the world paddling Bayou Lafourche.
It’s a 4 day event starting today in Donaldsonville, going on to Thibodaux tomorrow, and here in Raceland on Saturday and ending in Lockport on Sunday.
Each year I have a big party cooking jambalaya in a big black pot, catering gumbo, fried chicken, etc. and hiring a band to play music as the paddlers pass by.
My party guests pass out pralines to all of the paddlers that stop by on my wharf.
It’s a really FUN event for everyone.
Hoping all of you get a chance to enjoy this beautiful weather outdoors this weekend.
And as always, wishing you all the very best in your job search.
If I can help with lodging, please give me a call at (985)537-6773 , PM, or email me at claudettelp@charter.net
I was just there a little while ago. The hiring is HOT at ECO, Hornbeck, and Harvey.
Yes, the hiring is HOT right now!
All 5 mariners that stayed at my B&B this week were hired at ECO as AB’s or training mates.
They have all chosen to stay here, again, rather than the free housing.
Another mariner that got hired last week at ECO checked in yesterday after staying 2 nights at the free housing.
So, this week is going to be another busy week.
If you are wanting to stay here in search of a job, I suggest you make reservations in advance, if possible.
Chances are you may get a room at the last minute, but definitely not assured.
By the way, please remember that check-in time is between 3:00 and 7:00 pm.
Guests are retiring for the night after 7:00 and I do not take late check-ins, please.
Take this into account when planning your trip.
Also, when planning your job search, allow yourself at least 4-5 days to cover all of the companies, return to some if the HR person is not available, take your physical, etc.
Thanks so much for your consideration.
