Well, for starters… if you’ve never worked offshore before you don’t know if you can do it until you go out for a few months… some hate being out on a boat for that long of a stretch and quit, some can’t be away from their loved ones that long, they quit, some just can’t take the conditions at being at sea, getting thrown out of their bunks, knocked around and feel like the crane operators are literally trying to kill them… they quit. It’s not for everyone… as far as work schedules are concerned one can negotiate their own when they get hired on as long as it fits into the company’s schedule… most offer 28/14 (28 days on & 14 days off)… 28/28… etc. but don’t count on going home just because it’s time to rotate out (schedules get busted up ALL THE TIME.) a saying always held true that if you wanted to make sure to miss crew change just make a flight reservation on THAT day… guaranteed not to make it!
