John Le Carré on Brexit and more

Please find the cartoon so we can see if Norway gets to be a US colony like Greenland & the UK, finally apart of the EU against the majority who voted against it twice or simply annexed by Putin without a signal shot being fired.

The UK should have a trading relationship with the EU similar to Norway’s.

The Republic of Ireland has always wanted to reclaim Northern Ireland, but the people of Northern Ireland want to remain part of the UK. Will Northern Ireland will become a UK free trade zone?

I was surprised that Scotland voted a few years ago to remain. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually votes for independence. However, given Scotland’s independent streak, would the people really want to join the EU?

I think, and I hope, that the UK, Ireland, and Scotland will be just fine after Brexit.

Norway is not likely to become a US colony, nor is Greenland, or Iceland. Neither are they likely to be “annexed by Putin” anytime soon.
That they will be member of EU in the future is more likely, since they are already member of EEA and comply with most EU rules etc. (Greenland is part of Denmark, a EU member)

Northern Ireland, Scotland and large swats of England, incl. London voted to remain in EU by large margins, so things have changed since any previous independence votes.

It is a fact that in general the Leave voters were mainly older people that is looking back to a time when UK was a powerful power and “foreigners” were staying in their place. That time is long gone and will never return.
The Remain voters were mainly the younger and better educated people in England and Wales and nationalists in NI and Scotland.

The younger generation are looking ahead and enjoy the freedom to live and work anywhere in the EU, with the same benefits as the locals.
They are not as afraid of competition from foreigners as the the older folks and realize that all of Europe is aging fast, needing movement of people within and immigrants from outside Europe to maintain economical activities and services.

UK and Scandinavia is very vulnerable to aging and movement from remote to central areas. Northern Norway is begging for people to move in to fill the vacant jobs, empty houses and have children to keep the schools open.
They are asking for more refugees to be settled in their area, with a hope that some will not move to Oslo area when they are granted permanent residency.

PS> The crime rate in those areas are not going up because of refugees and asylum seekers being housed there.

“Northern Norway is begging for people to move in to fill the vacant jobs, empty houses and have children to keep the schools open.

How many do you need? With a couple of posts on my wife’s Facebook account I can have you a few thousand by the end of the week & they will stay wherever you want as long as they can make enough to live or get a check. Will the refugees have to show up there? Post the details. We can easily solve Northern Norway’s problem. No joking, I can get you more refugees than you can swing a stick at.

You just want to make everything into a joke, with little interest in actually learning the facts. I know that it is more fun to just believe than to check facts, but I have little interest in debating on those terms.

Norway take in refugees and asylum seekers that is distributed around the country while awaiting a decision on whether they will be allowed to stay.
Please let your wife know that they have an ample supply from sources in Europe, Africa and Middle East and do not need any assistance.

Job seekers from EU do not need any permit to come to Norway to look for work, but are receiving help to find jobs (not monetary help) from NAV (Google it) Non-EU citizen have to either have a job offer, or find a job themselves, before they can apply for a work visa.

PS> Norway has a larger number of foreign born residents (15.%) by % than US (13.6%):

7+ billion people on planet. How many starving? How many unemployed? How many make less than $3US per day?

Northern Norway, one of the richest places on the planet, what were you complaining about again? Why wouldn’t I make a Joke?

What are you doing about it???

Nobody is complaining. They are loosing their young population, but they are doing their best to attract people to move there and settle down. Nothing to joke about.

One point of view:

Bravo! Bravo! I like that point of view. Wouldn’t be the first time those little islands stood up to Europe & kicked its ass when it had to. My money is on the Brits.

What about sparing a few $ for the starving in the world?
The Brits hasn’t got there yet.

NYT article on the possibility of a UK breakup:

Scotland voted to remain in a UK in the EU possibly hoping that UK would not vote to leave, probably knowing that if they did they’d get another referendum. When the Brexit referendum came around both Northern Ireland (56-44) and Scotland (62-38) voted to remain in EU with better margins than England (53-47) and Wales (53-47) did to Leave. Now that it has happened, Scotland absolutely wants another referendum to pursue their preference to be in the EU, but the UK government has a different attitude about its principled respect for sovereignty and self-determination when it’s one of their subject states.

Really? Hmmmm…This quote is from you, from your website (I forget the name–was it kookypantsnutjob. com?)

“No atomic bombs ever exploded over Hiroshima and Nagasaki August 1945. News about 100 000’s of Japanese being vaporized in a nanoseconds FLASH and disappearing in thin air or slowly being killed by nuclear radiation during several months afterwards autumn 1945 at various Japanese hospitals were just Fake News and propaganda!”

No sane person would trust you to refill a Dixie cup dispenser, let alone consult on maritime safety.

You are 100% right, ombugge.

Well, I just try to do my best. And I don’t purvey misinformation. I just publish all my info at my website for anyone to look at.

To be fair, Norway is not that much of a hike from the Russia and the border doesn’t exactly need Special Forces to overcome.
We’re not talking Korean DMZ here.

the world needs less people not more

The world need less people, but some countries are in need of more, since their work age population is shrinking and their birth rate are very low. (Singapore and Oz among them)
Since there are surplus in some countries and shortage in other immigration is a logical solution, which many countries know and practice. (Singapore and Oz among them)
.

That would be a cruise liner full of people with coronavirus and clostridium?

Ombugge,
Interesting article in the NYT.
I am not hostile to the EU per say. However, I am very hostile to the lack of democracy.
