Hormuz in the News

On a completely unrelated note, I’ve found a lot of these threads to be a lot more pleasant after discovering the Ignore feature.

It’s nice being able to read discussions of the news and other maritime topics without having to interact with any hypothetical contrarian authoritarian septugenarians in the process (unless that’s really what you’re here for, in which case you do you).

A state of war exist between Iran and USA. What one can expect? Everything is legit.

Iran Conflict | The London P&I Club

The USN fired 3 5 inch shells at the Iranian vessel. If all three had hit the ship " a bloody big hole" would have been an understatement.

Today’s summary…

I wonder if they fired explosive projectiles. Rather, as this was a method to send a message, that they fired surface practice which has no explosive. They would have left holes and further damage inside the hull. The video I saw showed the gun firing but no explosive effect on impact.

That’s the most believable summary I have heard.

Don’t say he wasn’t warned:

A strait talk from AlJazeera…

It’s time to stop fooling around. Iran has been the primary sponsor of Islamic terrorism and proxy wars for 47 years. They have killed hundreds, if not thousands of Americans. The hardliner religious fanatics are in control and they are basically a martyrdom suicide cult seeking nuclear weapons.

Negotiating with Islamic terrorists is a fools errand.

Hormuz freedom of navigation , and attacks on Gulf States oil and gas production facilities needs to be resolved promptly, or it will cause a severe world wide recession for years.

After the Great Recession and Covid, we have had enough recession and hardships for a lifetime.

We need to start bombing again and do whatever it takes to permanently defang these hardline Islamic terrorists. Unfortunately, that is going to mean completely destroying Iraininan industry and infrastructure and killing many thousands of people, but it is what it is.

Its going to require committing tens of thousands of US troops for years with thousands of casualties

There is no other viable choice.

Please demonstrate how Iran, directly or indirectly, has killed thousands (plural) of Americans. I am unaware of an American death toll of that size at the hands of the Iranians in the last 47 years.

No thank you! We tried that in both Afghanistan and Iraq and nether should be considered a success; more like mistakes that ballooned the deficit and caused unnecessary loss of U.S. life. Iran would be a MUCH harder nut to crack than either Afghanistan or Iraq. I shudder at the thought of how many thousands of traumatized veterans this country would need to care for after years of conflict with Iran.

Are you saying that Trump is a fool?

They are surrounded by nuclear warheads. If they start a nuclear conflagration it will be the end of them.

Why not put the money into improved local surveillance allied with stricter border controls?
