Am I missing something?! Hitler TOOK over Europe. By June 1941 Entire Europe except few neutrals was taken by Germany and its Italian ally.
Was there a Jewish soviet republic ?
Yes, but he didn’t hold it. Read what I said. If Britain had done the same as America (ie stuff the Europeans - let them fight it out amongst themselves) and stood down, he would have held Europe and not needed to try to take USSR. USA would have stayed on the sidelines as isolationists and not entered the European war.
Except Great Britain
They not going to answer that, because the answer is “none”. Quick example: my father was in the fight, he told me , before 1943 his crew had to abandon their howitzer and run on foot 3 times just to escape encirclement and death. In 1943 they replaced horses with US made trucks . Gave them tremendous mobility, quick supply delivery, opportunity to advance on time to support tanks and mechanized infantry.
True.Hitler was reluctant to fight Great Britain for many reasons. One could be some blood conections btw Royals and Nazis
No, it was Jewish Autonomous Oblast . But why this question ? There wasn’t Tatar Soviet Republic or Kara-Kalpak Soviet republic for example, but Tartars and Kara-Kalpaks fought and died for Red Army as well.
I know this will fall on deaf ears because the people who hate the US for numerous globalist, leftist reasons also hates Winston Churchill similarly. But a quote I’ve remembered from a Winston Churchill biography is below. The haters won’t agree but in both World Wars Churchill stated several times what it would take to defeat Germany. Arm chair quarterback & cherry pick info about WW2 all you want but at the time, no one knew the going ons of WW2 more than Churchill. I trust Churchills personal notes on WW2 more than revisionist political motivated amateur historians.
______________
“There are only two ways left now of winning the war, and they both begin with A. One is aeroplanes and the other is America.” Winston Churchill
______________
“Air power formed part of Churchill’s strategic design for defeating Germany in the two world wars. To his top leadership at the Ministry of Munitions, Churchill made plain the strategy that guided his actions: “There are only two ways left now of winning the war, and they both begin with A. One is aeroplanes and the other is America.”4 Churchill grasped a fundamental strategic truth that Britain’s ability to defeat Germany—whether it was led by the Kaiser and his generals, or by Hitler—required air power and American strength. This understanding of the international strategic environment—the growing importance of both air power and the special trans-Atlantic partnership with the United States—guided Churchill’s strategy in both world wars.”
Totally agree. That was right then and it is right today. Nobody is strong enough to win a conventional war involving major military and economic powers w/o allies on their side.
If a nuclear war break out, who win is immaterial. The results is “obliteration” of life on earth as we know it.
PS: Popular word “obliteration” these days.
How much military equipment and supplies do yo think the Murmansk Convoys manage to bring? (In % of Soviet requirement to keep fighting)
https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/second-world-war/a-5-minute-history-of-arctic-convoys
And since we are talking about the Murmansk convoys;
- What nationality were the merchant ships that participated?
- Who manned them?
- Who escorted the convoys?
- Where did the convoys start their voyages towards Murmansk?
- Who kept allied HQ in London informed on the movement of German navy ships in the area (Northern Norway)?
- Who sunk Tirpitz?: Sinking of the Battleship Tirpitz
Can’t answer these question?
Maybe time to read up on WWII history (and more) from sources not intended to glorify own efforts and belittle others.
@Alex63 : you were proven right; @ombugge didn’t answer that question I posed (then posed again), because he doesn’t like the answer to it (none, as you pointed out).
Instead, deflection deflection deflection (also correctly predicted).
Ok, ok…I’ll give him a third chance to provide a direct answer to a direct question:
What was the path to defeating the third Reich (aka, saving Europe from Hitler) without US involvement?
A lot do speak German, in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and more.
German are thought as elective 3rd language at High schools in many European countries. (Together with French and Spanish)
PS: English is thought in Primary schools in most European countries.
(English English that is. American English they learn from Films,TV, Social media and Games)
I find it amusing that people waste their time arguing about who did what 80 years ago yet not discussing who is doing what now. Their are people of many nationalities on this forum who could give the perspective from their countries. What is happening now will be history tomorrow. Of course WW II did have one big difference. The US had a draft back then and every able-bodied person served whether they wanted to or not, similar to other countries today. Most members of congress and the president had service experience for 40 years after. Now not so much. The occasional ‘thank you for your service” is all the sacrifice most citizens give while they are thinking thank God there’s no draft or national service and you went so me and mine didn’t have to do shit. They think paying taxes is all that is required.
Estonia? They were part of Soviet Union from 1940 until 20. Aug. 1991.
The Cold War officially ended on December 26, 1991, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
They must have done a lot in the period between Aug. - Dec. 1991
OK there are more to it that that. Here from a source you can trust:
Estonia (05/08).
The allies, which incl. both Soviet Union and USA, but not exclisively.
The war was NOT WON FOR BRITAIN, it was won by and for everybody on the allied side.
Even occupied European nations contribute to the success by whatever means available, both with resistance on the home front and manpower, equipment, ships and aircrafts in allied service.
Yes a lot of the equipment came originally from USA, but was paid for after the war. Merchant ships of many nationalities carried it across the Atlantic to Britain in convoys protected by war ships from all allied navies.
PS: That lesson should have been learnt by all, but the present US administration seams hellbent on unlearning all historical lessons.
You know…. It was their underground resistance movement. They must have used the same tactics the French & Norwegians used to set themselves free from their German conquerors in WW2. We all can rewrite history anyway we want & it was France, Norway & Estonia that won the Cold War. NOT the USA. NATO doesn’t need the USA nor the otherway around.
Cool, the USA can go it alone. Move all US military bases out of the 85 countries they have all over the world.Downsize the military. Get rid of boondoggle military spending. Have the Pentagon submit to an audit as required by law. They never have so far ! Use the money saved in the US. It will make DOGE’s ‘cost savings’ seem like nothing, which they were. BUT you know that will never happen. Too many people getting rich off the trillion+ USD the US spends on “defense”. As always, it is all about the money, not defense, not national interest but private profits and I say that as a participating capitalist ! ![]()
I didn’t know that resistans in Franc, Norway and Estonia during WWII had such a long lasting effect. Astonishing thought, if that is true.
For Norway’s part, the contribution to the war effort was not only resistance on the home front:
The Shetland Bus operation in WWII - #13 by ombugge
Then perhaps you are thinking on too short of a time frame? The last time the US stayed out of Europe’s business after WW1 they practically destroyed themselves within 20 years. After the smoke & rubble settled the USA was the only large, functioning economy on the planet. No reason to think that continent of serfs, cowards & warmongers would do anything different the next time either. History repeats itself. Let Europe worry about Russia & the US stay out of NATO & the Middle-east IMO.
And now cowardly, inclusive Britains are being overrun by unchecked immigration. Go figure
Whoa, Alex. I am not ignorant because I used the word “Russia” to refer to what was technically known as the USSR. It’s like people commonly refer to people from the United States as Americans even though people from 22 countries can claim to be Americans.
Use context. I could conceivably used “Stalin” to refer to the war effort in the east even though he did not actually hold off the Germans single handedly. Or used “Moscow” to refer to that area even though the effort involved more than the capital city.
The point is that the war in the east was left out by the original poster and they should be recognized. All of them.
I see . What was Tatarstan then?
Where was this Jew Oblast? In Ukraine Soviet Republic?
