@Tupsis , I’ve notice site monitors often like to kill a thread on a coherent comment, especially when their worldview/narrative aligns with that comment & that is all right. Not a big deal. But I’ve always had a lot of admiration for the pre-WW2 Finns & don’t want to end that thread with someone saying your ancestors lost their fight. I was in the process of writing the below reply to you when the thread was shut down. I’m not trying to revive that previous thread, I just wanted to say this & thats it.
I & many historians disagree with you. There’s dozens of possible different outcomes where Finland would have came another despot Soviet satellite state but zero where Finland defeated Stalin & kept the 11% that they lost. 20 years after the peace agreement, take a look at Russia, the Soviet satellite states & Finland. Your forefathers WON. ONLY Finland did it! Your forefathers, from a tiny counrty with very limited resources, fought one of the worst dictators the world has ever seen & made him sign a peace agreement. The rest of the world wasn’t going into direct combat with Stalin over Finland & not a country today is going into direct combat with Russia over Ukraine. Folks can beat the pro-EU war drum all they want but they’re all safely back home behind computer screens while the meatgrinder of Western Ukraine wipes a generation of Ukrainians off the planet. Thank God Finland in 1939 had better leadership than Zelensky, Biden & the EU bankers of today. Don’t sell your forefathers short, they WON that war. They weren’t shipped off to Siberia to starve, left on idled trains to freeze to death or shot on the spot during the round ups like those from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Many of the Finns alive today are here because their ancestors won & lived. Finland was the only Russia neighbor, the only country to have beat Stalin. With all due respect.
