Hair Follicle Drug Testing - Company List

I am new to the forum but have used the advice at great length in the past. I wanted to start this thread to share information on drug testing policies.

I was shocked that my new employer took hair samples as part of my pre-employment physical. I passed but I thought it might be a good idea to start a list of companies that do this sort of testing.

So if you know of a company that takes hair samples as part of employment physicals please reply with the company name.

ENSCO (formally Pride International)

How about, don’t do drugs and you wont have to worry about it.

What’s the difference in taking a piece of hair and peeing in a cup? If do drugs it’s going to show up in both rite?

Your pee can clear up in a few weeks. As long as you haven’t cut your hair the drugs can show up in it.

Cutting off the hair on your head wont save you. You’ll have to go for the full shave down and Brazilian wax. Don’t forget those tell-tale eye brows and lashes. Haha, show up looking like that and the employer will know you’ve been huffin’ something without any test…

We shaved one of a guys eyebrows one time after he fell asleep on a Friday night leading into a LONNG weekend. He never noticed until he got up for work Monday morning. Pics were great!

On a more serious note, grow up and take the job seriously… drugs are NOT on the menu.

A friend of mine who used to be a merchant mariner said not to worry about the hair folic test. Personally I’m not because I’m not a pothead nor do I do any drugs. A friend said that shit doesn’t work and he’s not worried about it but that could be because he is out of the U.S. teaching English to foreigners so why go back to ship work when one can make 1,000 dollars a month teaching English to people who hate your country? Haa! Unreal.

I agree 100% but it seems like so many Americans are doing some type of drug these days. Sad.

I remember back when my company started Drug Testing and how many people we lost. Then fast forward years later we had a C/M fall down a ladder way a day or so short of Crew Change (3+3), boy were we all surprised when he came up positive for Coke! This guy was the next in line for a Captains spot and here he was doing Coke while on the boat!

Sorry, I do not feel sorry for anyone that gets caught dirty these days. Good jobs are hard to find.

To tell you the truth giving a hair would be way easier than getting my crew finished pissing in a cup when they can’t go…

What an idiot.
Obviously he got fired from that company but is he able to apply at another or does a positive test stay on your record for all to see?

That gets sent to the CG and a big ol can of worms are opened at that point.

I thought it was the companies choice whether or not to turn your failed test into the coast guard? I know some people who have gotten popped, for one captain that I worked with, it meant over a year on the beach, doing rehab meetings 4 days a week, and construction for 15 bucks an hour just to try to make ends meet, and all for a couple tokes of weed a week before crewing up. Best to just abstain.

Effen waste of a career. All for a little buzz.

Can he say ‘Welcome to Walmart’?

Our company just joined a program called DISA. Supposed to keep track of all our random screenings and an annual screening by DISA. All this info then is available to the oil companies we work for. If you test positive your fired. Why do we need additional tests just to prove to oil companies we are compliant? SECON (drug screening company) does them both. Wonder if all this is a new line of revenue for them?
