You forgot this bit of news.

The reason for the collapse has not yet been determined:

14 other river bridges of the same design has been closed for inspection.
Temporary bridges being installed in two places:

The truck that was on the bridge when it collapsed was been salvaged

Kittiwakes find interesting nesting place on a ferry:

[quote]

Endangered bird grows up in a very special place

The baby Kittiwake can soon fly from the nest on the ferry. By then he has already traveled further than from Ona to Cuba. But first he must avoid being washed overboard.

  • It’s quite incredible, says skipper Kurt Magerøy about the figureheads who have taken up residence at MF Kvaløy: A couple Kittiwakes and their young.
The family travels from port to port. But will they “come to port” with the nesting?

The ferry runs between Ona and other islands further inshore. For several years, the skipper has watched birds build nests on the side of the ship. If this year’s young make it safely to the wings, it will be the first time Magerøy sees that the nesting ends well.
In other summers, the waves have washed the chicks into the sea. The ferry skipper is not sure that the Chicks will make it this year either.

  • There is usually a summer storm. Now we get a strong gale. This results is high seas, a lot of wind and rough collisions with quays and fenders. This will be a trial for the birds, he says.

Another bike trip in Norway that is not for the unfit and faint-hearted:

Too late for me, but it’ll be there for the adventurous, young and fit for at least the next 100 years, IA.

PS> Tough now, but imagine what it was like for those who built it without modern machines and tools:

Many of those workers were Swedish “Rallar”:

An American “discovers” Norway:

Local papers ALWAYS find a local angle to any world news. So also with the news that Queen Elisabeth has died. (RIP)

From smp.no today:

Muskox are not native to Norway, but a few animals were brought in from Greenland in1932 and let loose in the Dovrefjell nature reserve:

They have thrived and the flock is now so large that some animals stray into populated areas:

Interesting study from Lofoten:

Lots of people (incl. Norwegians) wonder why Norway is SOOO expensive(??)
Or is it?:

Autumn is here. It is the time for colourful sunset:

No, it’s not cooked, just very rare:

This lobster was caught in Larvik on 3 October, and has changed waters to the Atlanterhavsparken in Ålesund. The color combination is so unusual that people have been hunting for the lobster since it first appeared in 2020.

Electric ferries are not new. In Bergen they had electric commuter ferries in 1894:

August 1, 1894. Two of the ferries were operating from Bradbenken to Holbergsalmenning.
www.beffen.no History

The service is still in existence, operated by 3 ferries, but no longer battery powered.
They are now diesel powered. The present ferries looks like this:

The ferry service is popularly known as “Beffen” and the crossing take just over 2 min.:

Beffen – never concerned about bigger competition:

The best way to see the Norwegian coast is by the Coastal Express service, no matter which time of the year you choose to travel:

And while you plan your trip on the Coastal Express consider taking a break in the journey, either North or South bound, in Norway’s most beautiful town, Ålesund:
