I would go with whatever is cheap and comfortable. I used a Timex for years and now an Armitron bought for $18 @Wal-Mart Fall-Apart.
I would never wear or use something that I did not want damaged or destroyed while on ship.
Buy all my clothes from Goodwill, cheap watch, etc. Only things worth spending on are boots and outerwear, in my exp.
I really like the lower tier Seiko dive watches, can usually be found at outlet stores for under $100. Every one I have had keeps really excellent time (within +/- 2 seconds a month) Lately I have gone to watches with tritium tubes in the hands and markers (such as Luminox and Reactor) always visible in the dark, no buttons to push to see the time, and not annoyingly bright.
I just bought a G-Shock recently and it seems to do the trick. Be careful bought - don’t buy one that has a “super LED” for a light - you can’t even tell what time it is at night. Returned that one and bought one that’s backlit - works like a charm.
[QUOTE=c.captain;64509]Completely forgot about this jewel of a watch I wear for special fancy dressup party occasions on the bridge …
I mean every crusty old merchant mariner should be able to be GLAM and wear BLING during the midwatch! I mean wouldn’t it be just awesome to share this with your watchpartner…I mean you can even text eachother from opposite bridgewings…OMG!
