Still waiting for her big Chouest expose website. . . .
Ugh not this again.
Please donât get her started.
Did better than your rocket last week, just sayinâ.
Also the press releases before the launch were very clear this would be the end result.
I should used my snark font. Still not good at this technology stuff
Relax man, her computer is still in the shop.
No it started when I stayed I was female and asked if men and women should have to share rooms on ships. It got worse when I talked about Hornbeck trying to fill a quota of hiring women and filtering them out with a bogus physical after they signed the hiring papers. I was never afraid to say I am female but apparently there were some members that pretended to be men
No they were not. It started when I stated I was female as asked if men and women should have to share rooms on ships and it got worse when I talked about Hornbeck having women sign hiring papers for their government quota and then filtering them out with a bogus physical and the ECO physical that seemed to have a similar purpose. I was the only member of the site that openly said I was female. Apparently there were one or two that pretended to be men for years
The past posts of that time were also heavily edited as the amount of foul and unprovoked language was almost unreal. Looked back now itâs all been cleaned up but my posts were also edited by someone
Whatâs wrong with men and women sharing rooms on ships? Itâs never happened at work but, Iâve had women as roommates and housemates before, no big deal, everyone got along. I have friends that have also been in coed living situations and it wasnât a problem for them. I can see on ship, where the roommate isnât vetted in any way it could be a problem, and it could even just be a personality conflict like youâd have with any roommate same-sex or not. I still donât think itâs grounds for presuming itâs going to be an issue though.
She wasnât.
No one cares about that.
Why not? It happens all the time and Iâve never seen it be an issue.
No you werenât.
Not mentioning that youâre a woman in every post you make isnât âpretending to be a manâ, itâs being a normal person. We had two regular contributors that we knew were women, both of them engineers. Iâm sure there are lots of others but thereâs never really any reason to mention it so no one does. Itâs kinda sexist of you to assume everyoneâs a man unless they repeatedly tell you theyâre a woman.
Hornbeck?
What about Hornbeck?
Swinging back to the title of the thread, pretty sure the federal funding of Kings Point could be better spent as scholarships at the other maritime academiesâŚseeing as how much the federal govt. spent per student is 3.5 times higher at Kings Point compared to the tuition of other academies (total spent yearly divided by number of students).
Thatâs not how the internet worksâŚ
There is some logic to this step. KP (and two other training facilities) were created during WWII to meet the need of mariners to keep up with the sinking an construction for the sealift effort for both theaters. Prior to this, only Massachusetts, New York and California had state schools. As I have stated elsewhere, personally, I feel that cadet shipping is better than a schoolship, but there just arenât the berths available like there were when I was a cadet in the 70s. Again, I go back to my first response to this thread, it is all rather pointless until this country adopts a strong maritime policy, or joins the rest of the world in allowing sailing regardless of the flag on the back. I havenât dug deep at all, but I would imagine that a large percentage of the FOC fleet is US owned or backed.
That is like saying West Point should be closed and its budget given to The Citadel, VMI, ROTC, etc. as those programs produce officers at a lower cost. But I agree that the KP campus could be put to better use under the DoD. The SMAâs provide more than enough licensed officers.
CM- As I recall, the creation of the USMMA was part of the 1936 Merchant Marine Act- as a direct result of the Morro Castle catastrophe.
I think the Morro Castle fire was more along the lines of the catalyst that finally forced congress into action after many years of discussion.
