Anybody here work for Fugro or have heard anything about working for them?
What about drillships in general. Most of what Fugro has are smaller (200’ - 300’). Are they good gigs? Miserable?
To me it seems like they would be pretty neat to work on. You go to different areas, get DP time, and seems like you would get a lot of ship handling experience.

Fugro/Chance is a survey company. They do survey work on many different size vessels including drill ships. But they have nothing to do with DP operations nor ship handling…
hmmmm. I am confused or maybe I am taking the bait… On Fugro’s site they list almost all of their vessels as being DP - am I wrong in thinking you would need a DP operator if you want to use the DP on the vessel?
Why no ship handling experience?
I know what Fugro does - they have a fairly extensive website. I am looking for more info on what it is like to work for them as a mate. Or what it is to work on any drillship.
As was said, Fugro is a survey company and as such concentrate on survey activities. They off load the management and crewing of their vessels to specialist maritime agencies. The use of agencies tend to vessel specific so if you are looking for a marine crew vacancy you need to go through the agents and not Fugro themselves.
Good Luck
Have a capt.I work with that worked for them, quit and took a gig taken a vessel to india, real good money at the time. But is kicking his butt everyday for quitting them,by the way he calls them about twice a week at the main office, trying too get back on with them-he`s saying that they saying they going have work around the 1st of the year. But everybody saying that too!
Fugro is a HUGE company with many different branches. Fugro Chance is a surveying sector of Fugro out of louisiana, no they do not have any boats themselves but Fugro as a whole has lots of boats. Fugro is a dutch company but like i said there are lots of different branches in the US.
I love working for Fugro, great benefits, good pay, they treat us well. Plus we work 30 on 30 off (the vessel crew).
I have gotten Tons of ship-handling, 4 point anchor and winch handling experience, not to mention all the stuff about drilling i’ve learned. So far i’ve been here 14 months and have gotten to travel from the Gulf (where we primarily operate) to San Francisco to Gnome Alaska to Seattle to LA to Peru…
