I know at one point and time there was a gigantic blog concerning foreign flags working in the GOM. I have been on the lookout for foreign flags working out of Fourchon, especially since the downturn in our industry.
I looked out our front windows about and hour ago and low and behold, the Island Enforcer was headed for sea, for ‘sea trials’, MMSI257477000, callsign LAJU7, IMO 9484780, Norwegian flag. This can only make me think that they are fixing to go to work. I have also noticed Adams Vision occasionally coming and going from Fourchon and ACTIVELY working just East of LOOP, around West Delta 95.
Why is a foreign flag vessel working and not US flag? HOS has a construction boat available. This is really starting to tick me off. I worked in the Norwegian Sector of the North Sea in the Late 80s and 90s. We had to take a Fisheries Rep onboard and also pay Norwegian income tax. (Luckily the company paid the taxes). Why cant we get the foreigns out of US waters or at the very least make them pay US taxes?
What does your congressman say about this? How about the mariners union down in the Gulf of Mexico? Aren’t they raising hell about jobs being taken from US citizens?
tengineer
Vessel is owned by Island Offshore which Gary Chouest is part owner of. Vessel is being reflag and having americam crew put onboard. I have friends currently on the vessel as we speak. Require unlimited tonnage endorsements, Not OSV endorsements. Suppose to be reflagged to Vanatua (Sp)

Just my 2 cents and “off rant”!
Are you talking about the HOS foreign flagged construction vessel? I can hook you up in the galley on the Island Enforcer. I know the Captain.

tengineer, please tell me you are being facetious. Congress???..Unions???..Raising Hell???..On which planet??? Sadly, not this one.

I guess you do know the captain. Too bad you have to see that guy every time you look in the mirror.
The funny thing is over half of the people responding on this thread, including myself work on foreign flag vessels.
Some foreign flagged vessels in the GoM are manned with all American crews just as the law says that they should be. Many circumvent those laws with loopholes or plain falsifications so it is not necessarily calling a kettle black.

Of course I was being facetious. Courage has been rare to nonexistent for some years now.

The law says they must be “if” the foreign flagged vessel is majority owned by a US entity. If the vessel is foreign, a waiver can be attained, as the law stipulates, and OCS Visas issued. Either way, it will take an act of congress to change these facts.

That is all true but is the ISLAND ENFORCER majority owned by a foreign or an American corporation? Someone told me once that she was owned by a very large American OSV operator and would be manned accordingly.

The HOS Iron Hose and the HOS Achiever are both foreign flagged, so whats the difference, and the Enforcer makes them both look like ugly ducklings in comparison.
You are well informed, and that is the case.
Ulstein and Chouest formed this outfit some years ago. I thought then it was a chance to bring increased technology to the GOM and I am glad to see it coming to fruition. As long as the latest Island vessel is majority US manned while on the OCS there should be no objections from anyone. [I do wonder if the pay is different from the OSVs]
Chouest is ahead of the curve once again.

Didnt know HOS had Iron HOSE…Thought it was Iron Horse! LOL!
Just saw this go past C-Port 1 (Island Enforcer). That is one big ass boat for Fourchon. When I looked at that thing and then my ship there was a lot left to be desired. I hope you guys are right…that she is american crewed.
