As a fat person and “academy kid” I agree on both points.

Notice that I used the qualifier “most” to indicate that it was a generalization with many exceptions.
Everyone has to start somewhere and “most” academy kids do just fine after they get some experience.
You have to do HUET to work on a supply boat? Do the other big companies require that as well?
Almost any company that requires HUET will send you to school at their expense. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It seems that every time you turn around the customers are requiring additional training. The legitimit comapnies willl provide that for you and will even pay you while you’re there.
