Pretty depressing. AIRSTA or Sector Newport has 5 Dolphins and the closest air stations (as the crow flies) are Astoria - 120mi to the North - and North Bend - 90mi to the South. Add a bit of time to responses. Had no idea this was happening.
They’re closing/closed the Airstation in Charleston, SC as well. Budget cuts are hurting the USCG terribly. But let’s make sure the Navy gets some new aircraft carriers, subs, and landing vessels that will never see combat.
The USCG has been cutting back on search and rescue and services to fishermen for years. They just want to be cops, or the Navy. Lots of money wasted on ineffective Homeland Security and high tech toys.

Ain’t that the truth.
No disrespect to the Navy- I am ex-Navy, but the CG should not have to have a bake sale just to buy a helicopter.
My wife is active duty USCG and I was as well. They are cutting budgets all around. Her unit lost $90K in fuel funds, and that is for a surf station with a SAR detachment in the summer. Homeland Security has ruined the USCG.
