Escort Tug operations

Here is an opinion on Escort Tug Operation:

PS> Lots of comments as well.

When I questioned the stopping ability of the roughly 7500 hp relatively small with low freeboard RotorTug depicted in the posted photo, I was thinking of how much bigger overall with high freeboard the time tested and proven 10,000hp escort tugs ALERT, AWARE & ATTENTIVE are in comparison.

I was also thinking of how much bigger with high freeboard the time tested and proven 8000hp escort tugs GARTH FOSS & LINDSEY FOSS are in comparison.

Of course those tugs are designed for heavy weather escorts and rescue in major storm conditions.

Yes that looks like a much bigger and powerful tug then the escort tugs used most places.
It is also intended for a lot more varied tasks than required in most ports:

It is also an older tug than most of the ones presently in use for escort, incl. Roto tugs.

My only personal experience with using escort tugs is limited to one trip with an empty 300000 dwt tanker from Eastern Anchorage to Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore some years back.

PS> I was Warranty Surveyor, not Master, or Pilot. (The tanker were going to be converted to an FPSO for operation in Angola).

That’s ok, but I wouldn’t mind having a little more freeboard.
