It’s not a matter of numbers, it’s really a matter of what direction they run and where from on the vessel.
Add a 12 ft. tide in the mix and see where you are at as well.
I have heard that the seismic surveying done last summer up that way has really got some wheels turning. Wonder what will become of it. The comments on the Portland Press Herald are indicative. Lotta NIMBY squawkers freaking out.
I think a C-Port Wanchese or C-Port Gloucester has a nice ring to it!!!
C Port Newport News or C- Port Cape Charles or C- Port Lewes
That’s what I was getting at, backing on a stern line and kind of leading a line aft won’t do.

I don’t think any C-ports are needed, wanted, or even possible, anywhere in the Northeast.
Its not too hard to imagine an Irving owned Atlantic-Port in New Brunswick, or even Nova Scotia, but it would look a lot different than C-Port.
C Port Portsmouth. The old PMT would work great!
Or the Jerry Talton terminals in Newport News, if they can get out of their contract with MSC. There is pier space plus shore power available. They are right next door to the DTA coal piers.
Those Jerry O piers are a good whack away from falling into the James. They have the best access to the interstate and the trains but the worst dock. PMT has the better dock but the roads and RR aren’t as good, plus the neighborhood right there.
Who knows. The offshore business on the wast coast is years away at best.
Bay runner, don’t knock my neighborhood. We won’t steal it if it’s nailed, chained and welded down. Anything else is fair game.
I hope it happens, any jobs (particularly those in our industry) is a good thing. I’ll also add that all the big docks in Norfolk/Newport News/Portsmouth have 50’ alongside. We escorted a 57’ draft Maersk out last fall… We gots da water!!!
No offense intended regarding the mooring comment. I was just making the point that when someone from somewhere with a 2 ft tidal range moors a ship where there is a 20’+ tidal range, the results are often… ‘Entertaining’.
I know they were when I went to Halifax as a C/M on a research vessel 20 years ago .

I was just busting bay runners chops. He was my mate for a few years. His side of the river (Norfolk) isn’t any better.
