First off, I just discovered this forum and think this thread is great that workers from different contractors can compare their companies. With that being said, here is my two cents about Seadrill.
Seadrill is a good company with excellent beneifits, and the pay is not too shabby. HOWEVER, if you are offered a job on their rig in Mexico run away. Run far, far away and dont look back. There is so much underhanded, crooked, and sometimes illegal activies that go on on that rig that roughly 70% of the crew has asked for a transfer and more than that is looking for employment elsewhere! That rig could be so much better if there was a shakedown in the upper management on the rig and in the Mexican office. There is no drilling experience with most of the section leaders, and it shows. I consider myself somewhat of a veteran to the oilfield with over 10 years experience. I have seen how a rig that has great morale should operate and that rig is far from it. Granted, alot has to do with Pemex. But it is the contractors responsibility to intervene when the rig is put in a dangerous situation. It is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured or heaven forbid, another Horizon catastrophe!
Can anyone tell me the rotation for mates with Seadrill?
3wks on - 3wks off?

These numbers are way off. If you are so unhappy please leave if you haven’t already. You are part of the problem. Complainers and whiners that do not want to take the lead but only want to be led. Show some leadership or go ruin some other rig’s morale. This is a good gig down here and it gets better every hitch. There is tremendous support from the office and people are mostly up beat. Lobster tails, seafood, King Crab legs, Fish and steaks “EVERY” week. People are really spoiled.
Seadrill is a good company with a good future. Make the best of your situation and try to make your work area a safer better place each day.

Does anyone know which drilling companies are still paying for chief mate classes? I know Noble is, which others?

I know Seadrill was paying for the classes, but now that they are not required I am not sure.

Ocean Rig:
They take care of you, especially Mariners.
Pay is average, not great.
You have to pay your own taxes in the country of work, which sucks
You can get hired on for promotion (i.e. a higher position than you currently are).
I know some people over there OIM/Masters, and they seem to like it.
I also know some people who want to leave recently with them moving their office to Greece, there may be some issues brewing.

thanks for the reply. Wonder what being an ET would be like for oceanrig or sevan.
Everyone is saying average pay! But what is the average pay for a senior DPO onboard a drillship? I have heard $1, 000 to $1, 200 a day. Is that acurate? How about Jr DPO’s?
Your numbers are high. 750-1000 for a srdpo depending area.

ADPO: $500-600
DPO: $600-750
(Also above depends on location).

Thank You for the info I hear all kinds of numbers and never know what to believe. I thought that $1, 200 was high!
$750 seems low for DPO
Thats just salary, not total compensation.
We haven’t factored in any types of bonuses (retention or performance), which totally depends on what company you are at, and the range for all of this is quite broad because of some companies not valuing mariners/dpos. We can probably call it these numbers:
ADPO: $80,000K (GOM) – $125K (Overseas West Africa)
DPO: $110K (GOM) ---- $185K (Overseas West Africa)
SrDPO: $135K (GOM) — $210K (Overseas West Africa)
Would most agree with the numbers above? That is based on my experience and my knowledge and actual numbers I have seen.
are those numbers the annual bonus, or total annual compensation?
Just compensation. No bonus or taxes added in.
