Dress Uniforms

Does anyone know where I can find the most up to date regulations/guidelines for wearing the dress uniforms?

Walmart. Look for “Dickees”.

Dickees are the good old standard for khaki uniforms for sure. I know this sort of thing is frowned upon on here, but on the off chance that “Seajbee” is talking about dress blues, then the Lighthouse Uniform Company in Seattle is a pretty easy place to order from.

Seajbee, if that’s what you’re looking for then here’s the link:

Merchant Mariners wear Naval uniforms? For what?

During the BP spill there was the dike who said she was the head of the merchant marine in her outfit. Someone has a pic on here

It’s not a naval uniform. It was standard fare for our kind for almost a century. Merchant sailors not wearing dress blues, even just on special occasions, is a recent development. You don’t have to wear them if you don’t want to, but don’t knock those who do.

The few pictures I have of my great grand father on the vessels he ran in the 40s and 50s he is wearing a similar uniform without the ribbons on his chest. From what my father tells me he would wear the uniform to work in to the 70s when he retired.

Precisely. There is a dignity in wearing the uniform. We’re not pretending to play navy and wishing we were cooler than we actually are. It’s OUR uniform as much as it is anyone else’s.

I will agree as long as I am not forced to wear one. I will admit if I run out of things to spend money on I would buy a fancy uniform just wear it on Halloween.

I’ve heard of people getting married in them. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

I think it would be kind out cool to have a family picture wearing one, family down the road when I’m dead could have a cool picture of me, somewhat representative of the career which I pursued in my life. I know firefighters and cops wear them in parades and what not. I guess it’s more of a “tradition” than some kind of statement or out of practicality.

it’s Admiral Josiah Horatio Crunch himself!

what a phucking phat poltroon!

Dinner boat and passenger boat guys still wear a uniform. The “penguin suit” I wore one for a few years.

There is most certainly a U.S. Merchant Marine officer’s uniform, with its own unique crest, and uniform devices and trim to match. Like someone said before, its all available from Lighthouse Uniform. Its perfectly acceptable for any licensed merchant marine officer to wear the duly appointed uniform of his professional office, despite the fact that the its been deemed uncool or anachronistic by many. 50-60 years ago it would have been worn with pride. Now most don’t even know it exists. And yes, its a standard Navy dress blue uniform with Merchant Marine crest on the Cover and anchors or props on the sleeves.

Amen. Anachronisms be damned.

this is it right here which is proudly worn by all USMS officers at KP

including the very most esteemed Captain Kenneth R. Force, USMS

Once this emblem meant something of import…once it stood for greatness…now it is a big JOKE worn by a CLOWN!

I would think it was more appropriate to wear the cap device of your respective academy so that there’s a more personal importance to the whole thing. Lacking an academy the general USMM one would have to do.

you know, I pick on K.R.F too much. I need to turn my pointy stick on a more worthy candidate.
