Philippe Mathieu, director of operating support in Equinor, believes the new system strengthens Equinor’s control of maritime traffic. According to him, there are around five thousand vessels operating the Norwegian coast, and Equinor is now given better control over these.
“We can foresee hazard situations earlier than before using machine learning,” explains Mathieu.
He says that the new system will cover a distance altogether from the satellites and down to 1000 meters below sea level across the Norwegian continental shelf and the British side of the North Sea.
