Many here have probably read about the decommissioning vessel Pioneer Spirit who did her first job a couple of months ago: http://gcaptain.com/watch-pioneering-spirit-removes-yme-topsides-in-north-sea/
She will soon get competition from a similar but different concept by Twin Marine Heavylift: http://www.tmhl.no/
In 2014 they teamed up with Shandong Shipping, Quingtao, one of China’s biggest shipping companies: http://worldmaritimenews.com/archives/133800/twin-marine-heavylift-teams-up-with-shandong-shipping/
They have now ordered three heavy lift vessels at CMIC Raffles Shipyard, Yintai for delivery in ???: http://www.norwegiansj.com/news/view,shandong-sees-decommissioning-opportunities-orders-three-vessels_45517.htm
Will these vessels be used to remove large platforms in the GoM at some time in the future? Very likely as this will be cost effective relative to cutting them up into liftable section at site.
