Dann marine towing

Anybody know about Dann marine towing in Maryland ?

What are you looking to know?

Do you like not getting time off?

They offer 3 schedules, 20/10, 30/15 and 40/20 you’re allowed to choose but it might take a little while to be placed in that rotation

I heard they only offer two schedules long and longer

I will add that I’ve heard you can get held over. However, they do have some very new boats that are beautiful, and they do book your flights and pay your travel in advance, which is convenient

How’s the pay and thanks for all the info. I plan in applying because I know someone that works there. He wouldn’t tell me how it was so that’s why I’m asking you guys. Just trying to get my foot in the door somewhere. It doesn’t matter how horrible it may be. I’ll just suck it up

That should be a hint…

I interviewed there and was offered a job. I can’t recall what OS pay was but AB unlimited was 235 If I remember correctly. The people are very welcoming and I talked in length with an owner Chris Dann while I was there. As to what its like I can’t comment, as I took a different job.

I don’t think they pay for flights maybe bus or train ticket

That’s what I’m screaming. The guy you know won’t tell you how it is there. That’s screams STAY THE FUCK AWAY. Come on man, use your noggin for something other then a hat rack. Trust me, one of the worst things in this world is being miserable on a boat for 20,30,40 days.

Don’t get me wrong I understand what you’re saying but I’m just trying to get the experience. Just trying to get my foot in the door somewhere

Beggars can’t be choosers. If you’re willing to suck it up for a while to get the experience, I say go for it and rock it out. is . If you’re young and single it shouldn’t matter about the schedule anyway. If you’re married with kids, wifey better be understanding or Jodi will be keeping your bed warm.

That’s right, lots of advice here is based from one person’s view point. If Dann Marine called me right now and asked if I wanted to sail deckhand I’d hang up on them. But there has been times in my career I’d been on it so fast it’d make your head spin.

You may be right. I guess from where I stand I’m like you, I’d laugh as I hang the phone up. And the only reason I say something is cause I have been stuck on a boat for 5 weeks and I hated the whole damn crew and it sucked. But, if your willing to deal with the possibility of a bunch of bullshit just to get some sea time then best of luck to you man.

True that, but, if this a greenhorn, he should take what he can get. And you kinda said that anyway. Fuck it, take the gig and get some experience.

I don’t know anything about Dann Towing, but I have undoubtedly worked at places that are worse.

If you are new and want to get your foot in the door to sail, you have to take what you can get and go sail. If you don’t do that you may never get started.

If you think that being “stuck on a boat for five weeks” is so utterly horrible, maybe you shouldn’t be going to sea. There are jobs that are 14/14 or 28/28, but there is no guaranty that you will always have one. Five weeks is a short voyage. Five months sucks, but many of us have had to do it.

You must not have finished the sentence cause i clearly was talking about being with a bunch of dumb fucks… I work 28/14 and and not complaining about being “stuck on a boat” nor do I not like going to sea. I was simply stating that being “stuck on a boat” with a shitty crew sucks.

Knowing how to tolerate being on a boat for months with people you don’t like is one of the many skills that a successful sailor must learn.

I worked there. Worked over as needed. When I asked for a sea time letter to upgrade they wouldn’t write it. I quit. Assholes…
