As someone pointed out to me (Sand_Pebble? Lee_Shore?) they’re going to have to stay utterly vigilant until a vaccine is available.
Early on the external sources were geographically few which is easier to guard against. Now that it’s a pandemic the whole world is an external source. Leak-bys are to be expected.
Smart guy whoever said it.
Maybe in part. Also I saw an article that life in Singapore had returned to normal. So also infected person within the country come out after lock-down measures are eased. Did you see the Marginal Revolution post about the epidemic yo-yo I posted?
Hahaha! It was you, I take it?
Yes Singapore have a second wave of infections, but this time caused by traveler from countries other than China and S.E.Asian countries:
The number of cases in Singapore is still small, also relative to population.
Singapore is still able to track the origin of every case and publish daily updates to the public.
Lessons learnt from previous epidemics helps, but a disciplined and easily controlled population on a small area helps. Not to mention good governance by a capable bureaucracy and Government.
No where close. Cases of remission in China for COVID19 that’s being snuffed out by the media. Muslim pilgrims still active in SE Asia and returning to their home countries.
There will be multiple waves of this as the ignorant few affects the responsible many. This is just beginning.
Easily 300K+ global by end of March and 100K in USA by end of April.
Friendly neighborhood Indonesia:
Not using early kits provided by WHO. Snuffing out news for fear of panic and allowing large religious group gatherings to take place like the 9000 folks who just met for a pilgrimage recently… They will come to Singapore one way or another. Instagram youngsters will still flock to Bali. Tourism must live on at any cost.
Foreign Affairs removes paywall.
??? - My post was poorly worded. Only saying that it’s been reported that in Singapore when the restrictions were eased and people returned to normal it caused a second spike in infections.
Nothing about China.
AMLO aside, Mexicans have started freaking out. A good number of mask wearers at the grocery store yesterday.
Donde vives
Que crees? Cd.
= “Can you believe it?” Mas o menos. Literal translations have a way of not working. You should see what they do with subtitles sometimes.
que crees= what do you think (believe) the verb creer is to believe.
Can you believe it= puedes creer lo
I occasionally watch Spanish and French movies. The ones with the subtitles are a pita because I absorb both the texted translation and the words spoken by the actors. You’re right about some of the translated dialogue being way off.
US on a steeper curve than most.
Its a bit deceptive, the graph is not normalized by population.
It would be like comparing fuel consumption vs hours for different ships with out normalizing for tonnage, length, or power.
Nice graph. New Zealand doesn’t feature. We have 48 cases all traced and have been associated with incoming travellers and their immediate family out of a population of 4.8 million. The border is closed to all but returning residents but there are 80,000 New Zealanders overseas so the numbers will increase but all returnees have to quarantine themselves for 14 days. Random police checks ensure compliance. The award for creative writing must go to the sports jocks who are writing about no sport.
