Grounded Cargo Ship Hein Leaking in Chaguaramas.
Cargo vessel Hein (IMO 6702284) is partially submerged and ran aground in the southern side of Monas Island after its load of bricks shifted. The vessel wass en route to ST. VICENT and currently sailing under the flag of Guyana.

The crew made the right call to beach the vessel to avoid capsizing. There are no breaches in the hull and steps are being taken to refloat her.
However, hydrocarbons are leaking from the bilge, posing a threat to marine life and livelihoods in the Chaguaramas Basin and the Gulf of Paria.

Fishermen and Friends of the Sea - FFOS is urgently calling on the Ministry of Energy, IMA, and EMA to activate the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan and deploy booms to contain the pollution.
This is not just a maritime issue—this is about protecting our coastal ecosystems, fisheries, and communities.
Immediate containment is critical. We cannot afford to wait:
