Might as well take advantage of the loop hole and do the Large OSV assessments, and apply that STCW competency for CM/M.
So I’m gonna bump this back up for discussion…
I downloaded the C/M assessment book and the policy letter in the front of it states that 500/1600 Ocean/NC Masters, Unlimited Master C/M, and Master OSV, all with Ocean or NC are valid to assess (Granted only Oceans can sign off on celestial). Is this true or did I get something weird? The arguments from above certainly seem to make this a valid point, though I agree only an Unlimited CM/M should be allowed to sign off.
Next, is it true that if you have the 6000 ITC OSV Master license you can just submit to test with the sea time? No assessments needed? If I have all my sea time on my 2nd Mate but haven’t had my 6000 for the full sea year will it get bumped?

So from the policy letter I recently downloaded it basically said any NC/Ocean master 500 tons and up including OSV masters can sign off on assessments, the only stipulation being that an oceans guy has to sign off on the celestial.
Secondly, is this 6000 ITC OSV Master loophole real or just sarcasm. If I submit with enough sea time on my 2nd mate license and only have held the 6000, let’s say, one month, would I still qualify to test without the assessments?

I would love to hear the specifics of how to apply the STCW competency to CM/M… I am sure it will be denied the first go around, like to have the reconsideration typed up before hand. I have taken several of the classes, and was led to believe that I had to take all the classes for 3rd mate as well… Spent a lot of money, and more importantly, time away from my family. Like to continue on with my career without more time away.
