Chouest Bridge Near Miss with Tanker in Brazil

I missed the near miss…

Did they make passing arrangements for crossing ahead? Is this your video, were you on the ships bridge or are you just making assumptions, what other traffic was present?

Looks like a good 1/4 mile CPA, If you’re not use to heavy traffic, that might look a little scary… but 1/4 mile might as well be 5 if everyone was maintaining course and speed.

Facts kinda matter and this video doesn’t tell much of a story tbh.
Having said that I’d probably rather take the stern if there was no other traffic present, that’s just me.

I would tend to agree. The turn to port by the tanker means (to me) that the pilot didn’t expect the OSV to cut across his bow. If he did, he could have slowed down earlier to make it work out better.

Sure, just as soon as you let everyone know what the passing arrangement was or lack thereof, post the ECDIS recording and the radio comms, we can determine if anything you’re assuming has an ounce of merit.

More assumptions, starting to see a pattern here.

My take is that the video is shot from the bridge viewpoint from the tanker, not a sport fisherman, not ecdis, nor VTS cameras if available.

Who goes out of their way to label a video as near miss from the ship if they are not already on the ship?

I don’t have all of the facts in regards to passing arrangements and such but the above stuck out to me.

Nothing dramatical here. (Except the headline; “Ship almost hit Rio - Niteroi Bridge”)
Slow down the video and it become far less than “dramatic”.

PS> Anybody that has sailed Singapore Strait with a loaded VLCCs going eastward, limited to the deepwater lane, will think this is a breeze.
(“Numerous” ferries crossing, tugs w/barges and WAFIs going any which way)
