Collision between HL Eco and YM Serenity off Australia.
nearly ripped open the HL Eco LNG tank! Fortunately it only cut through the lagging and insulation not the vessel itself!!
And it snagged the anchor of the Serenity!

Boy I would be running the other direction if I saw that LNG tank on the stern. I definitely would not have chanced the second attempt at tightening the brake on that anchor windlass either!
It tightens a lot faster if you put the phone down and use both hands.
And the video has been taken down due to copyright issues.
See if this one works:
I couldn’t believe the guy filming ran up to the bow when a collision was imminent. Seeing the insulation ripping off those LNG tanks is definitely one of those “the last thing I remember seeing” moments the guy could be telling to the man upstairs.

Reference is made to the recent posting of Dr.Sal -namely The Maritime Executive article.
I may be wrong of course but it seems a bit bizarre criminal charge for violation of colregs. As per the article the eco vessel was approaching the anchorage or navigating through it.
It lost power hence her ability to maneuver what makes her automaticaly the vessel not under command last time i checked colregs.
Hope gentleman from Aus and NZ will bring some more details as the case is worth observing and following.
Comparison with the results of salient case of Hebei Spirit comes to my mind when anchored tanker vessel was hit by elements of a tow what resulted in significant oil spill that have outraged the public and politicians.
The wrath of S.Korean public focused on the anchored vesse’s master - Master Jasprit Chawla ,what resulted also in criminal charges.
Looking forward for further developments.
