There are those who disagree with you. From Wikipedia:
In a survey conducted in 2019, 84% of homeless people in Seattle/King County lived in Seattle/King County prior to losing their housing, 11% lived in another county in Washington prior to losing their housing, and 5% lived out of state prior to losing their housing.[[(Homelessness in Seattle - Wikipedia)
I’ve known people that had houses and ended up living in vans. Back in the eighties there were two hotels on Ballard Ave. (then the fishing district), that rented rooms at about $100/month. Seedy places. Alcoholics lived in them, and crazies, and people living on remittances. One burned down and was rebuilt as expensive apartments. The other became a boutique hotel at $300 a night.
The inebriates, junkies, and crazies, where did they go? Disappear? More come in from other places, sure, but don’t discount the homegrown variety. In the old days you didn’t see them so much if you stayed out of the slums. That’s what slums are for.
Back to Taiwan…
Taiwan and India should follow the example of the the Huguenots and England. The Huguenots were Protestants driven from France to England in the 17th century. From the BBC:
The Huguenots had a huge economic impact on Britain. They revitalised the silk weaving trade, kick-started various manufacturing industries, such as cutlery making in Sheffield, and invested heavily in growing businesses.
The skills and energies of Huguenot immigrants played an important part in the transformation of Britain into Europe’s major industrial power. Many Huguenots joined the armed forces, with some even rising to the highest officer positions.
Indian leaders should contact Taiwan, and say, “The handwriting is on the wall. Stay in Taiwan and you’ll be playing second-fiddle to the CCP at best, or be thrown in jail at worst. Move your factories and workers here. We’ll settle you all in one place. We’ll give you this perk and that. Our labor is cheaper than that of mainland Chinese labor, and we have a big, educated manager sector. You teach us how to be productive, you stay free. A win-win situation.”
The result would be a more prosperous India. China’s economy could soon become moribund. Both countries would continue investing in America, as a safe, stable place to park money.
