Maritime Partners has a ton of money behind them. They’ve been very active.
I think that’s probably good news for Centerline and their crews.
Yeah maybe phase out some of the old junk they have.
Yes, phase out the old junk, proper maintenance for the good equipment, and competitive day rates to keep their good crew and attract quality new crew. Compete on quality, not on cheapest charter rates.
CL had been pretty competitive lately based on offers I’ve seen. I’ll be interested to see where it goes from there. Call me
Hope all the guys that have weathered the storm there get some sort of relief from this. Place has been a disaster for years. Not one division better than another.
I remember reading the below thread several years ago & thinking, “What a hodgepodge group of companies & bargaining agreements?” I wonder if their mariners will fare any better in an even bigger conglomerate?
Hodgepodge is a great way to describe it. A mess works well too.
I don’t know anything about the new owners, Maritime Partners.
Are they a finance company, or a vessel operating company?
Centerline has a lot of turnaround potential.
Centerline needs a new beginning with a new name, new logo, new business plan, new management, new financing, new equipment (no old junk), new names on the boats and barges, and most importantly, a new positive attitude.
The company needs to put Harley and Centerline in the rear view mirror and drive fast until they vanish in the distance.
I hope they scrap or sell foreign all the old junk tugboats, rather than recirculate them to a bunch of small mom and pop companies, and another generation of mariners.
lol
Reminds me of a conversation between old TW hand and a Swire guy telling him how good their boats are.
TW hand, ‘yes but thats not the way we do it.’
Damn, that’s crazy. Just literally a few weeks ago I had an interview with Centerline cause they wanted to poach me from my current job and company. Basically offered me the position for 1 of 2 ATB’s on the spot, but I told them I’m wanting to stick it out at my current company and boat for a little while longer, but also because I want to acquire my AB first before I make any moves. Told them I’d absolutely reconsider in the near(ish) future because it did genuinely catch my interest. And now I find out they’re no more lol. I hope the new company keeps the shortlist I’m sure they put me in, cause I did wanna go on that ATB. Whelp.
Curious what they are offering deckhands these days?
Heard the tankerman rate for the harbor went up a good bit.
I recent saw a Centerline ad for Captains in Seattle. No day rate stated.
I’m curious what the outside Captains in Seattle are making now?
A year or so ago they had to give wage increases in New York, but not Seattle. I’ve heard that Seattle got increases this year, but I didn’t hear how much.
There was an effort to “standardize” day rates in NY to rectify that everyone had pretty much negotiated their own rate to be lured over there in the first place.
Heard it was around a $70 increase for the tankerman day rate this year. Don’t know if that was harbor only or the ATBs too. The usual hearsay so who knows.
From what I’ve heard, they have bumped their wages up. They are still paying extra (sea pay) if you work outside the sound. I know they need people bad enough that they’ve been reaching out to past employees seeing if they’d like to come back. Their recruiter is pretty active on facebook too.
One thing I have to say with all the bouncing around I’ve done, when I was at Harley they had a pretty good and affordable benefits package with a good 401k match. It seems Centerline has maintained that too.
