Sounds very much like in Norway. Firearms are available for hunting, but nobody need a semi-automatic military style weapon for hunting even elk or reindeers.
Hunters have to go though thorough weapon safety training, shooting test on simulators and prove that they know the rules and regulations governing hunting.
