Capt. Cavo question

I have a 200t MOT Inland and a 200t Master Near Coastal, looking to endorse as 200t Mate of Towing Near Coastal, NMC says I have to test at REC, I need 9 more days to qualify for 200t Master of Tow NC.
Can I test at a closer Sea School instead of going to rec 150 miles each way and do I need to test anyway ?

I assume you need to take the Apprentice Mate (Steersman) exam. There are several courses approved to substitute for this test. You can find them through the NMC web page:
http://www.uscg.mil/nmc/gmap/findschool.asp

Search for “Apprentice Mate (Steersman)” courses. Tghere are also a small number of schools with a shorter course for mariners who already hold Master 200 Tons Near Coastal. Look for these under "Apprentice Mate (Steresman) Upgrade courses, then read the course approval carefully. You need to ensure that the course is approved specifically to take someone who holds Master 200 and get them App. Mate N/C.

Mr Cavo
there is a wrong link on the NMC web site for the maritime license training co (904) 891-9713

on this page
http://www.uscg.mil/nmc/approved_courses.asp?short=FL&long=Florida#list

the link take you to a blank page,

the link should be

as always THANK you for your replies to this blog

Chief Cavo,
I already have the 200t Master of Towing, Inland and a 200t Master of any steam or power Near Coastal, (two separate endorsements)
I applied for a 200t Mate of Towing Near Coastal for which I have time for and actually only need 9 more days to qualify for the 200t Master of Towing, Near Coastal
NMC said I had to test ROR and Deck Safety at the REC
I don’t believe I need to test based on my current endorsements, but if I do, why can’t I test at a closer Sea School test site ?
Thanks
Guy
