Tricky situation for me,I have mate 200 near coastal and master 100 ton NC with both an inland and near coastal TOAR signed off.have enough time with my apprentice Mate near coastal to get my Mate of tow NC and inland but plan on working inland moving forward, so I would like to get my Mate of Tow inland so down the road can upgrade to master of towing inland. Am I able to submit for both under the near coast apprentice mate and Near coastal license? All input appreciated. Or do I have to submit near coastal then add route would like to save myself an application and headache if I can.
Just submit for near coastal. Because you can run inland with it. Unless your working western rivers then you would need to add western rivers
No need to add inland if you have near coastal. As already noted, you can work inland with a near coastal endorsement.
So for context if I won’t have enough Seatime to get master of tow near coastal due to only working inland can I take that mate of tow near coastal and upgrade to master of tow inland down the road?
You can still get master of tow NC
If you don’t have enough seatime for Master of Towing NC,
but you have enough for Master of Towing Inland, and Mate of Towing Near Coastal,
then you can get both of those licenses now.
Later, adding a near coastal route to Master of Towing Inland may be considered an “increase in scope,” rather than “a raise in grade.”
So just clarifying since my apprentice mate is near coastal I would have get my Mate of tow NC retake the steersman course to add inland then resubmit after 90 days to add the route for Mate of tow inland? Only reason I’m asking is plan on staying on inland routes so Master of Tow Near Coastal down the road would run into trouble due to lack of near coastal time as mate.
No one has to take an apprentice mate course. It’s not required. It takes the place of taking the exam from the Coast Guard. You can skip the course and take the exam from the Coast Guard. There is a partial exam to go from inland to near coastal.
Seems like he worried about having a mate of towing NC and not being able to get master of towing inland because all his time will be as mate on inland vessels.
Correct, will not be able to get master of tow near coastal due to working inland routes so trying to get both routes since I have signed off toars and appropriate amounts of Seatime on each route then just upgrade inland from mate to master of tow.
