C/m assessments

Conventionally moored rig, only to second mate.
Conventionally moored rig, only to second mate.
Do you even need a 2nd Mate at all? Most conventionally moored rigs have Barge Engineers and Ballast Control Operators…no traditional marine crew needed.
Ya because all the CM courses I went to were so valuable that I will be better off suited for CM or Master… I dont know who wanted to get out of class earlier more me or the teacher. And what does the ship handling course have much relevance to me running my drillship. In the rare case that I ever maneuver a ship to a dock my ship will not act like a traditional single screw ship. I am better of suited taking more DP courses… I do agree the courses are good. However, there are so many classes and types of ships and the quality of some of these courses are so poor that I don’t think anyone can say that people who don’t take these courses are more liable to have an incident. You can learn as much or as little as you want on any ship. It is just up to the person’s professionalism or willingness to do the job correctly and safely that is going to prevent an incident.
Most all of those courses were useless if you ask me.

Ok, but do you think you should of had them signed off regardless? Or do you think the classes where you had the majority of the sign offs somewhat useful? Or would you honestly sign off any 2nd mate on your ship?

Ok, from a licensing standpoint, they are useful because you need them for the license. Point taken. From a practical standpoint of value in the workplace…a waste of time.
Really? YOU’RE a second mate, and you can’t go on the NMC website and find the assessments? Some people are so lazy and want everything handed to them, the quality of mariners is starting to decline.
no i prefer to ride upon the backs of those who beget me who have performed such grueling tasks as searching the nmc website and copying links. Why toil when i can thrive on the hard work of those who have come before me? now go do my bidding.

goddamn some people can be so nit picky. who bitches about someone asking for a link.

No, but companies like diamond employ mates as acro’s and cro’s to start in the offshore industry, before they do dp.

You won’t get sympathy from me or anyone else on here. Figure it out for yourself.

why the fuck do you think i want sympathy from you or anyone else? you must not even be able to decipher tongue in cheek comments such as the one you just quoted. you seem like you might be pretty uptight. Probably a fun hater as well.

That’s fucking awesome.

And, the amount of effort you have put into your posts, you could have easily already typed into google what you are wanting. Instead of wasting peoples time on here. Check previous posts of mine, and you will see I am willing to help and give information when wanted, except to arrogant little lazy people like yourself. Maybe one day you will see your mistake on your original post, I can not help you or teach you humility, that is for you to figure out and learn.

I enjoy reading these types of discussions as much as the threads that have insightful comments and inside information. I’d like to thank you guys for making coffee time so entertaining. Keep up the good work.

It’s like watching two fish complaining about being thirsty, and I just want to drain the fish bowl so the conversation starts to make sense.

In the beginning was the word, and immediately following was misinterpretation

im sorry almighty pdcmate, i shall humble myself before thy holiness. i shall prostrate myself before thee for my transgressions. Never again shall i inquire about things related to the subject matter at hand. forgive me my sins, holy knower of assessments, humility and character.

No problem, anytime.
And how can one get every assessment signed off on a drilling rig?
You cannot… unless you pencil whip. My comment was towards the point made that there are going to be marine casualties because people are pencil whipping there assessments and not taking the courses. I took ALL the courses before you could do assessments on the ships. I dont think I am any better off than anyone who pencil whipped everything. I dont think courses or assessments are going to save us. Although alot of training is useful and necessary, I dont think CMM courses are. Of course that is my opinion…
They have not been published. The rulemaking was placed on DHS’s “Regulatory Agenda” with target publication of April, 2013.
Can you say if there are plans to require the CMM courses by the CFR and if so which ones (or all)?
Can you say if there are plans to require the CMM courses …
No, I can’t say anything until the rule publishes.

I was afraid of that.

Does anyone remember what the SNPRM said about the CMM classes?
