Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on a project that I think many here might find useful, and I’d really appreciate some honest feedback from the gCaptain community.
I’m building a platform called OffshoreShipAdvisor, where offshore workers and mariners can share first‑hand vessel reviews, upload photos, and talk about what life is actually like on specific ships. The idea came from the same frustration many of us have had over the years — trying to get reliable info about a vessel before joining it, only to find scattered comments or nothing at all.
Right now, the platform includes:
• Reviews from people who’ve actually sailed on the vessels
• A growing vessel glossary with clear, simple explanations
• A photo section where crew can share what life offshore looks like
• Community‑driven insights rather than marketing material
I’m not here to “promote” anything — I’m hoping to build something genuinely useful, and I know this forum has some of the most experienced mariners around. If you have a moment, I’d love your thoughts on:
• What features would make a platform like this genuinely valuable
• What information you wish you had before joining a vessel
• Any pitfalls I should avoid as it grows
If you want to take a look, it’s here: offshoreshipadvisor.com
(Mods — if this isn’t allowed, please let me know and I’ll remove it.)
Thanks in advance. I really value the perspective of this community.
Very good concept. I’ve had a looksee and it’s very useful. If it had been available when I was at sea then the number of vessels I sailed on would be less.
Thanks for the kind words , really appreciate it. Our goal is to grow this into a genuine platform and community for offshore crews. Hopefully companies pay attention to the feedback and take action where it’s needed.
If you’ve got ideas on how we can make the site better, we’re always open to suggestions.
