Looking for a school to bang out BRM ASAP. I have been told that’s there’s a difference between the “class” and “simulator class”. Can anyone clarify what you need and where to take it that would meet the OICNW STCW requirements. I see MPT has two classes but one is way more expensive than the other, thanks.
Seamen’s Church institute in Houston offers BRM. I had to go through some assessments years ago. Much better experience than what I got in Seattle.
I took BRM Simulator at MPT. It satifies the training requirement and signs off the assessments from NVICs where as the BRM class only satisfies the training requirement. It really depends on can you do those assessments on board where you are. At that time for me, the vessels I was working on, I didnt have anyone qualified to sign off the assessments from the NVICs. So I knocked it all out in that class. OICNW can be costly if you dont work on vessel where you can get signed off.
Appreciate the heads up. I have my NVIC 12-14 almost completely signed off. This is a prime example of why I asked this question. One class is $2000 the other is 700. If I can get the cheaper one and it meets what I need for OICNW than why not. So basically the simulator (more expensive class) is just for the sign offs?
Correct. Simulator is for the sign offs. However, I would recommend to double check if there’ other NVICs youll need besides what you have now. At least at MPT, the simulator signs off other assessments listed in 1 or 2 more NVICs. Ill check mine later tonight and see what all was signed off. But what I needed may not be what you need.
Believe this is all I need. Looking for less than 3000GT OICNW. Not unlimited, so I am pretty sure NVIC 12-14 is all I need as far as assessments.
No such thing. OICNW is for either 500 GT or more or less than 500 GT,
500 GT or less than I guess. Work on a coastwise ATB.
Looking for Ocean or NC? For NC, Bridge Resource Management NOT Required, still in CFR but NVIC 13-14 removed this requirement in Change 1, Dated August 6, 2018.
NC, wow today just keeps getting better. What is required for someone who already holds a national mate and a bunch of other requirements (radar,ARPA,ECDIS,GMDSS,mate of tow, advanced FF, BT,VPDSD,RFPNW, Lifeboat, PIC, CPR first aid and a ton of sea time on a large ATB with bridge watchkeeping credit)
You will still need MEDPRO
Yes have a one week class scheduled this spring thankfully.
It will be interesting to see how NMC treats your assessments for NVIC 13-14 since you apparently recorded them in 12-14.
Yeah only one way to find out I guess.
See NVIC 02-18.
Keep in mind that some countries may not recognize near coastal certificates.
NC at this time
