If your employer is paying for the course consider taking a tankerman ship DL course. In 2008 I worked ATB’s & obtained my loads & discharges from helping out on the barge. (I’m E/R btw). I took the ship DL course in the St. Pete area & ship DL was what they put in my book even though I pushed a barge. Obviously I don’t know if they still do that or not.
Not really relevant. The determining factor is what is the vessel inspected as? If it’s as a tank barge, it’s a barge.
Also relevant, how did you get your current endorsement? If it’s with service and transfers on a tank barge (see above) then they are nt creditable for a tank ship endorsement. Same for the courses, if you took tank barge courses (cargo and firefighting), they don’t count for a tank ship endorsement.
Also if the “non-self propelled” is a limitation on your Tankerman-PIC (barge) national endorsement, it’s totally irrelevant, it’s still a Tank Barge endorsement.
Missed that. Was working on something involving whether auxiliaries like thrusters should be included in the HP/kW used for sea service, so was in a mindset to take it seriously…
See NMC website for list of approved ATB’s which may be credited same as conventional tank ships. The second option is get Tankerman Assist by virtue of holding Tank PIC Barge, go to tank ship to get service and transfers.
