Animal Planet Whale Wars

seadog: I think you mean a bullet-proof vest, a flak jacket only stops shrapnel aka flak. After all he’s done though its amazing he’s still alive.

I had never saw this show before, well I got a chance last night. From the threads I read here I thought it can not be that bad. Man, I was wrong, that has to be the biggest bunch of IDIOTS on a boat I have ever seen. They deserve what ever they get coming to them.

Not an expert, but aren’t bullet-proof vests made with ceramic or steel plates?
The vest Watson had on was a woven fiber type.
I’m very surprised that considering the TV series was filmed a year ago, no investigation or charges have been prominently reported in the news. I suspect it was staged or a piece of shrapnel from a flash-bang. Just dosen’t seem right. They didn’y really show a close up of the “bullet”, what I saw looked huge.

While not a defender of thiese idiots at all, the flag they fly is not the skull and cross bones. It is a skull and a sea trident crossed with the shepherd’s crook.

Bullet-proof vests are made of kevlar, there are steel and ceramic plates you can add to them for protection from rifle rounds. I also wouldn’t expect to get charged for shooting a pirate, however the Japanese say that they did not shoot at any of the crew and Watson is well known for fabricating things to get publicity.

It looks like the vest that he had on ws only made to stop pistol rounds, seems like a hell of a shot to make from another ship bobbing around 200 ft away.

Yeah, he fabricated the story to get headlines. 200 feet is around 60 meters, this is well beyond the range of even the .45 ACP which has a maximum effective range of 25 meters. A rifle at that range would have gone right through his level 3 vest.

Sea Shepherd’s own YouTube channel just posted the following video, which, conveniently enough, has comments and ratings disabled. Look how close their ship gets to hitting the Japanese vessel!

Their willingness to publicize their wrongdoings so proudly continues to astound me…

I am new to this forum and not experienced in maritime workings yet but even to the untrained eye it seems that these people have barely any idea what they are doing. And that captain watson he seems like a complete bonehead with no sense of leadership. On the one episode I saw he sent out four women to try to board a japanese ship!!! Good grief I might be old fashioned but you dont send women out to illegaly board a ship in some of the most dangerous and unpredictable waters in the world with no way to defend themselves!!! One of the women ended up with a fractured pelvis whitch can be a very serious and life threatning injury they didnt even have the proper medical equipment on board their ship. Speaking as an EMT and a volunteer firefighter you always plan and train for the worst. And as far as these folks saying they will die for whales is crazy! I will gladly die for my family, my country, and shipmates. but as for whales these people need to get a brain scan!!

Any other gCaptain fans out there whatching the Whale Wars Marathon today?
These guys are so Geppetto… They are worse then the Washington Nationals…

Thanks for the heads up Tim…It just started where I’m at…I finally got to see the entire swamping of the RIB…A painter would have gone a long way in helping to prevent that…

All they would think to do with a painter is to hand him a brush.

Marathon over… I did not watch the whole thing but checked in from time to time and came up with one conclusion… These guys are NO TALENT ASS CLOWNS…

If I was on this show, I would just pry to God that my dear mother was not watching…

Anyone want to take bets on what show has the first casualty — Deadliest Catch OR Whale Wars

My money is on Whale Wars !!! (Fucking Ass Holes)

There’s been fatalities on Deadliest Catch.

MEDIA RELEASE

26 December, 2008

SEA SHEPHERD ATTACKS WHALE RESEARCH VESSEL

The Dutch vessel “Steve Irwin” last night (26 December) committed an attack against the

Japanese sighting vessel Kaiko Maru, currently engaged in whale research in the Antarctic.

Protesters from the Steve Irwin threw bottles of acid and bottles containing a bluish-green liquid at

and onto the Japanese vessel. The Steve Irwin rammed the Kaiko Maru from the starboard rear

side and spent a number of hours in dangerous close-quarter harassment of the Japanese vessel,

repeatedly overtaking and circling the Kaiko Maru.

The incident occurred when the Kaiko Maru was undertaking a detour in the ice pack area after

completing the day’s research activities. The weather had deteriorated and fog had reduced

visibility conditions to about 500m.

The Steve Irwin approached the Kaiko Maru from the starboard rear side and within two minutes

the protesters aboard started throwing bottles, approximately 15 bottles of butyric acid.

After the ramming, the Dutch vessel pursued, repeatedly overtook and menacingly turned around

the Kaiko Maru for approximately three hours, and thereafter changed course to the east where it

disappeared from the Kaiko Maru radar.

The Kaiko Maru topside starboard rear bulwark was damaged by the Dutch vessel’s ramming,

although no hindrance to its present operation and research activities has occurred.

The Director General of the Institute of Cetacean Research (ICR) in Tokyo, Mr Minoru Morimoto,

said that Japan’s right to conduct research in the Antarctic was legally accepted by member

countries of the International Whaling Commission. Article VIII of the International Convention for

the Regulation of Whaling (ICRW), explicitly provides that member countries may issue permits for

scientific research.

“Sea Shepherd is a terrorist vigilante group that is operating outside of the confines of international

maritime law. Their activity threatens the safety of our crews and scientists and should be

condemned”, he said.

Mr Morimoto said research on Antarctic whale resources is important because the ICRW requires

that the IWC’s regulations must be based on scientific findings.

Anybody know if those high powered sound deterent devices will work through bulheads? I’d imagine they would work through wheel house windows. The Japanese should get several. Make those pirates SQUEEEAL!

Like Crazy Eddie once said…

Save the whales and harpoon the fat chicks!

I would like to see these clowns try to board a boat full of coonasses in the GOM. haha

They wouldn’t even make it that far, the oil companies and boat companies would make sure that it would be a ghost ship before they left port. Its one thing to pester a million dollar industry, but pick on a billion dollar industry and things would get hot for them fast.
Watson might be crazy, but he’s not stupid. I’m sure he’s thought about it, but even he realizes that is more then he can chew.

cmjeff…

When all else fails, resort back to timeless 7th grade methods aka stink bombs. What’s next? Cherry bombs in the toilets.

“That is one stinky slippery ship,” Sea Shepherd’s official Peter Hammarstedt said.

Interesting article does anybody think the japanese or anyone else will take action against these guys?
