There is a video available (note 00:34) that shows the Ady Gil maneuvering/towing gear which appears to be intended to snag the fishing vessel’s prop just prior to the collision. I can’t, nor can anyone but the videographer be certain, that the video is part of the same sequence. It’s obvious the Ady Gil is putting herself in a bad spot at one point
The Gil starts off by overtaking the f/v Shonan Maru and is then seen on the starboard side appearing to advance toward the bow of the Shonan Maru. Another video shot from ahead shows what appears to be the f/v turning toward the Gil just prior to impact.
It’s amazing no-one was seriously injured.
I’m curious to see what the videographer on the Ady Gil was able to document/capture. Any bets on whether it will see the light of day?
