Wasn’t it wonderful when the AMO was decertified by the AFL-CIO but I was sickened with Il Capo Micheal Sacco tuned the AMO into his licensed division of the SIU! Fuck I thought it was bad when the McKay’s ran the AMO as a private feifdom. Now those look like the glory days in hindsight! FUCK EVERYONE AT THAT MAFIOSI RUN CABAL THAT IS DISGUISED AS A LABOR UNION!

Sadly, you can blame the fuckers at the top of this shit pile but equally you have to blame the stupid membership for allowing this criminal enterprise to have continued now for more than three decades. The stink of the AMO is permanent…it will never ever be a real maritime labor union much to the detriment of all US mariners because they alone drive DOWN wages for all of us.
Ah…but driving down the wages was the point all along. SIU and AMO leadership are in bed with the companies they supply.
It is true that the members voted these clowns into office which tells you something about the membership’s reasoning ability.I am always amazed at working folks propensity for voting to screw themselves.
I remember back when union leadership that screwed the members ended up…dismembered.

I always laughed out loud at the union meetings during “elections”.There was only one guy up for each post. Who the hell else were we supposed to vote for anyways. What a scam that whole boondoggle was. My first vacation check had a $200 deduction on it for SPAD. I ask the patrolmen what is SPAD. He says Seafarers Political Activities Donation. I says I don’t wanna donate to that. He says yeah you do. I says NO I don’t. He replies YEAH YOU DO! My 18 year old brain finally clicked and I went and sat down like the rest of the cattle.

Mmmooooooo!
I never understood why these two goals are at odds. But your post does bring up the ‘deck-engine room’ friction. (as silly as it is!)
The Sea Project is put together by professors at the school. It does include some basic engineering items like outlining systems onboard your vessel, etc. (which of course any new engineer should do once onboar); but also has a module for the other department (so I had a section on basic navigation, mooring arrangements, etc.) and also includes course work for literature and writing. It does not include sections on general trouble shooting, maintenance, heat exchanger cleaning, coupling alignment, pump repair, etc. That is the stuff you learn be getting close to the First and the Day Third. I was on my second ship that didn’t have a Day Third and basically took that place, coming down to the machine shop in the morning and starting on my work list items. I don’t know that there was any Deck/Engine Room friction as a result. With regard to being a good shipmate, I mean being quiet in the passageways and cabins, showing up just a bit early to relieve the watch, cleaning and stowing tools and equipment after use, etc.

Yeah, I had that same experience with the SIU back in the early 80s. AND I had to join even though I was in a “Right to Work” state. When I questioned this, I was told that I had to because of where the main office was. Oh, wait. IT was in a “Right to Work” state, too. I did quite a bit better when I left and sailed non union. I could negotiate on my own.
what did he say their DP intentions are? Personally I think they are going to have a difficult time as the vast majority of jobs are in the oilfield and union is the dirtiest of all foul language here…sorry to derail but just curious
Right now the only DP stuff they have are the cable layers and the Sea based X band (SBX) radar thats mounted on a semi-sub.

He said they spent the money on speculation that they could get into some of the DP jobs out there, however he had no idea how they were going to get AMO members trained to even begin to get those contracts.
JOSE LEONARD IS A FUCKING SLITHERING SNAKE! He is as dirty as they come in the AMO and like all there is little more than a paid liar! The contract AMO has with Liberty Maritime was STOLEN from MEBA! Do some research on that one and you’ll see! FUCK THE AMO!
Ive read all about the Liberty MEBA/ AMO and one of our Adjunct Instructors who sailed with MEBA his whole career including some time with Liberty after the LNG ships were gone made sure we new that AMO had stolen that contract and clearly let us know how he felt.

ie. NO idea how to force their way into a sector of the industry what has absolutely no intention whatsoever to sign a contract with ANY union. Thank effing Christ for that! Why do you think the offshore companies pay so well these days? To keep the unions out…that’s why!

So why did you write earlier that you had what sounded like a happy little conversation with the Serpent knowing what you did? The AMO is beyond simply corrupt…after the last “election” any man who supports the cabal in charge deserves what he gets which ain’t much!

of course, having a strong union in the offshore sector has its own benefits…

About 700 Norwegian oil workers went on strike Sunday after two days of talks broke down on the issue of retirement age.

The strike will affect projects on the Norwegian continental shelf, including production at the Statoil-operated Oseberg and Heidrun oil and gas fields and development work on the idle BP-operated Skarv field, due to come on-stream late this year.

The Norwegian Oil Industry Association, representing the employers, estimates that the strike will cost about 150 million Norwegian kroner ($25.1 million) per day. Under law, either side can escalate action only after an advance warning of four days.

The unions want pay increases and the right to retire at 62 for the offshore industry’s 7,100 workers. Employers refuse to make pension issues part of the labor negotiations.

The average employment age for oil workers is 65, according to the Norwegian Oil Industry Association.

A complete shutdown of Norway’s oil and gas industry is unlikely as the Norwegian government could force striking workers back to work by demanding so-called compulsory arbitration, a method used in the past to avert disputes that threaten its key industry.

I must say a pension plan would be a very nice way of getting longevity from employees…,.

out of all the offshore companies in the GoM who has a pension plan other that TO?

WTF is that? a transformer?? Holy shit that thing is huge!

3m jobs at AMO are hit or miss. Most likely until you hit it right the contract will not be great. Read all the fine print and be willing to take a shit job to get started. There are 10+ tankers being built in the next 3-4 years that should be manned by AMO. If you do not have a PIC then speak to someone at AMO about becomming a PIC observer on one of their tankers.

Rowan has a pension plan … I heard a rumor that TO did away with theirs

According to the people who wear tin foil hats, it is a HAARP weapon! LOL

APL is not gone

Please explain how they are gone. I was just on an APL ship. You got MEBA, MMP, MFOW, SUP, and SIU crewing these vessels.

If I am not mistaken you forgot the ARA in that mix.

APL and the ARA failed to reach a new agreement a few years back.

I wasn’t sure and to be honest not surprised. The ROU has been gone a very long time and they weren’t really missed.

OK yes NOL owns them but for your “all intents purpose” they still have 10 ships that are US flagged. So no, there are not gone
