Hey guys been looking all over old treads trying to get an answer to what a 3rd or 2nd mate PIC is making on these AMO contracted tankers. Been working offshore and with things how they are in thinking I should jump back and get some recency seatime so I do t loose my PIC. I know every company is a little different but the union dispatching isn’t giving me a strait answer. $14k or $15k a month is what I was told. Is that 30 days is that 28 days . Is it paid out with ATO. I’m just trying to get an idea any and all help and info is appreciated
Most contracts give you a day rate with accrued time off per 30 days worked. For instance your vacation (ATO) is 22 for 30. Effectively 22 days paid time off for 30 days worked. The 14 to 15k a month is a total of both your day rate and ATO. Lots of tankers coming out, but there is a lot of guys in the same shoes coming from offshore who got laid off.
So your not getting paid day for day huh. Essentially it’s 3 for 2. Work a 90 day hitch get ATO for 66. Damn… But your working even time right … So then there is a month without pay basically. Is that what’s going on
I’m talking about officers not ABs

Welcome to AMO, the union that’s killing the US Merchant Marine.

Pretty much how it works. Yes this is for officers. As for the other unions, I know for engineers on tankers work something similar in terms of ATO.
OSG mates piggy back the MEBA engineers and get 26 or 27 for 30 for 2nd and 3rd. Pay in the 17k 18k range. Top 4 get more and are 30 for 30
Yep. Left them for “Big Orange” eleven years ago from a 3/M spot with OSI’s T-5E tankers where the pay was $117 a day ($25 per hour OT w/ a max of 36 hours a week) and 11 for 30 vacation pay. Never looked back.

“But AMO has all the jobs!” Is what I’ve been hearing from everybody. Meh, I’d rather work less and just adjust my budget than enjoy the pleasure of chasing the downward spiral.

Is that a particularly terrible contract or par for the course with AMO?
11-15 for 30 was about par for junior officers (3rd and 2nd mates and engineers) when I was there. I think it was 20 or 22 for 30 for senior officers. Beyond that, it was a “sweetheart contract” with MSC so pay probably was better elsewhere but someone else would have to give input on that. Again, that was 11 years ago and even the 3% annual cost of living increases would make it a lot higher by now.
When I worked for one of the bigger tanker companies, it was 20 for 30 for junior officers. Senior officers were 25 to 30. Some contracts add cost of living raises every year. Sometimes there are additional days of vacation or retention bonuses depending on contract and company.

Just learned yesterday that the 11.7% “paycut” MEBA took (everywhere, every contract) in order to prop up their own pension plan was summarily handed down to OSG mates as well. Real difference is that it didn’t go anywhere to prop up OSG 401(k) contributions or anything similar. It was just an 11.7% pay cut. All thanks to the “Me, too” contract OSG mates live under.
I just wonder if the same thing happened at ATC???
Not true. OSG engineers only pay 5.8%. OSG pay half the pension. Mates never got hit with any of that

Ok.
Guess I better double check my source…
Average Tanker scale w/ Amo:
Master 185k
C/E 178k
C/M, 1/E 144k
2/M, 2A/E 113k
3/M, 3A/E 96k
Based over three companies
what i liked about union pay scales is its in the contact for everyone to see.
I knew OSG 1st 2nd and 3rd engineers made more than Crowley but I thought Crowley Chiefs engineers made more. I guess not
