He’d probably crash before reaching his target, he seemed to have problems in one form or the other with planes in his career. If Daddy hadn’t been an admiral he might have been flying a desk and never been shot down.

I personally don’t see why are spending billions of dollars giving a damn about what goes on over there anyway. Everyone agrees they are nuts and stuck in some time warp. Used to be oil and “national security” was the excuse but the USA, Canada and Mexico have plenty of oil apparently, one has only to notice the layoffs and drop in the price of oil to see that. Let Saudi Arabia who has a huge military and the Europeans which are much closer to the situation take care of things if it bothers them. Quit spending trillions of dollars of USA money half way around the world when the people that most folks in the USA seem to hate, the Muslims, seem to be doing a fine job of killing themselves without USA help. Let them sort it out.

My brother went to Irag and ahfganistan with the marine corp and came home unscathed physically but he is definitely not the same person. They seem to do a splendid job of killing each other and they do it cheap! Sooner or later, left to their own devices they’d get tired of it. The citizens of the now USA did a great job of killing each other from 1860-65 while the world watched. Heck they could kill thousands of each other in a single day! But eventually they got tired of it, decided it was stupid to keep doing that ignorant crap, ran out of money, sat down and talked. Things worked out OK in the long run for the USA and the world.
Currently, it’s a volunteer force but not a volunteer war. Of course with an all volunteer force the people that decide to go to war don’t need to worry about their sons or daughters going off to war unless they really want to. So presidents and congress can pack off the sons and daughters of other people to fight when the mood, money or their gerbil brains speaks to them. I’d call that undemocratic but the US citizens keep reelecting these thieves and morons. It’s embarrassing.
