Advice for a youngin lookin for gulf work?

Hey all, Im Devin i currently reside in socal. Currently working for a launch boat company in san pedro. I am not new to boats i have years of experience. I am in the process of acquiring my AB STCW 100 ton master and radar observer. After gaining these credentials i plan on moving to the gulf and getting time on tugs and towboats. My career goal is to gain my master of tow and 1600 ton master and whatever else necessary to captain tugs. So my question for yall would be: am i on the right track as far as the credentials im going for? Are there any others i should be concentrating on? Also a little off topic but where in the gulf should i look for work considering i would like to live somewhere NOT urban. I would love to be able to have that small horse town style of living. Dont care what state (TX,MS,LA, ETC.). And lastly do any of yall know of any funding programs for these courses? As you all know they arent cheap when it comes to capt courses, stcw, etc. I am currently working with worksource but they will only pay for one course. So please fellow mariners let me hear your advice! Anything helps!

All the information you asked for is already I. This site.

All the information you asked for is already on this site. I suggest you use the search function and find it yourself. Is it really that hard?

Get your AB and BST that will get you in the door. Then find a job on a work boat.

The 100 ton license is a waste of money (if you are paying for a prep course). Get your AB, RFPNW, and BST then go to work. (And never again say you are getting or have “your STCW”!)

What are BST and RFPNW? What would I be making with those endorsements? And I though a capt license would be a good thing to have. Where exactly should I go to look for work?
