I currently have a A/B MODU that I have had since 2006. when I got it I was working on jackup drilling rigs, I came to work on drillships in 2009 and have been in the deck department since 2009 as a crane operator and deckpusher. I currently have 825 12 hour days on drillships. so my question is, will coastguard accept the MODU license time so I can upgrade to my 3rd mates or will I have to het an A/B Unlimited and hold it for 365 day first? any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thank’s

WTF is an AB MODU? Who makes this shit up??? Is that like an Ordinary Barge Seaman?
Why doesn’t the USCG just set up shop at Galliano Heliport and Fourchon and just start handing out free credentials? They can work in tandem with a Drillship Master and Marine Manager. The first can stamp/sign BS fraudulent entries in their FOC seaman’s books and the latter can type up a quick sea service letter attesting to the verity of the seaman’s book.
At a bare minimum, deck pusher and crane operator are not ABs.
You shouldn’t be able to upgrade to AB unlimited off that, let alone 3M.
But what the he’ll do I know. The NMC has probably already reviewed Steven Walker’s sea service letter and they’re just going to go ahead and send you an UL Master along with UL Chief Engineer license.
Real fair to all the guys in Fourchon who actually drive boats for a living, not to mention tanker and freighter ABs and Bosuns who’ve been working on deck, standing bridge watch, and steering the ship.
Long live the US MODU Marine!!!
Shuddup Johnny it’s not the US MODU marine as none of them are even US flag! Why do they even bother with a US license?
Yes this should not count towards any upgrade. But I’m sure it will…

You’re correct, it’s most likely not US flag, but do you think this guy is just trying to upgrade his FOC papers!!!???
The US papers are used to speed up the process of getting those FOC licenses.
With the aid of my USCG license, I got an unrestricted Bahamian Master’s license in all of 3 weeks. My first Bahamian anything.
Excluding manning waivers, those are US credentialed mariners, holding appropriate flag state papers, in those MODU positions offshore. They take their seaman’s books and sea time letters to USCG for upgrades/endorsements.
US MODU Marine.

First off anyone that does not know what a Mobil Offshore Drilling Unit A/B is has no clue about the drilling Industry. as far as the comment that we are nothing like A/B’s well your correct, we are more like 3rd mates. we handle all of the deck cargo etc. MODU’s were initialy assigned to people on ground bearing drilling units. Geees, what’s the problem with someone asking a simple question and trying to get a simple answer without a whole bunch of crap from someone.
