6000 ITC upgrade question - Mr. Cavo?

With a 3rd Mate unlimited, can you have the 3000 ITC upgraded to a 6000 ITC provided you have the correct tonnage sea time without doing the assesments? If not, what about with a 2nd Mate unlimited license?

Are you talking 6000 mate or master? Do you already have 1600/3000 master?

No. Look at the checklist on the NMC website. Here’s the link:

http://www.uscg.mil/nmc/checklists/MCP-FM-NMC5-90%20Mate%20OSV%206000.pdf?list1=checklists%2FMCP-FM-NMC5-90+Mate+OSV+6000.pdf&B1=GO!

I would say if they give you the 1600/3000 master when you upgrade to 2nd mate you would still have to get the sign offs. Once you held the license it’s 180 days on vessel over 1000 itc and then 56 days as observer on a vessel over 3000 itc. I’m pretty sure they would make you jump through the hoops. Who knows its the luck of the draw with evaluators.

By 6000 IC I assume you are referring to Master OSV up to 6000 GT. The only way to get that is to complete an approved “Large OSV” program. The program includes assessments.

Thank you Mr. Cavo - Nothing ventured nothing gained! Now if I can just get an assessor on this USCG approved training vessel to sign me off!
