From what im reading it sounds like if I take a celestial nav class and turn that in to the CG thats all I will need to go from NC to Oceans. Is this correct. The NMC’s new website isnt very clear on anything. Mid Atlantic Maritime’s website is a little clearer, but I would like to be sure. Also would it let me get a 3000 ITC oceans or does that license even exist? Will it satisfy STCW requirements??
Lots of questions. I thought I would be done once I got my 500 NC Master but now it look like I have more learning to do to get some more $$$.

Yes, the class will give you Oceans on your Master 500, but only NC on the 3000 ITC. When you upgrade to Master 1600 Oceans, you can request the Oceans on your 3000 ITC.
Also, you can have the OSV limitation removed on your 3000 ITC when you move to Master 1600 Oceans. Then it is good on any type of vessel up to 3000 ITC, and not limited to OSVs.
The NMC initially issued me Master 500 GRT / 3000 ITC Oceans and 6000 ITC OSV when I sent in my Celestial while holding a Master 500 GRT / 3000 ITC NC. They then took the 6000 ITC OSV away, as well as reduced the 3000 ITC to NC OSV. I did not disagree with them on this, and their action was in line with Policy Letter 07-00.
When I was ready to submit my sea time letters to bump up to Master 1600 Oceans, I asked a woman in Capt. Lloyd’s office if I could get my Master 200 GRT / 500 ITC NC Sail Auxiliary bumped up to Oceans. She said there was no such thing as a Master 200 Oceans. Yes, that is what she said.
Rather than deal with these people directly, I used a consultant for the transaction. Got what I was eligible for, and it was worth the very reasonable cost of the consultant not do deal with these WV people.
Yes, ask and (maybe) you shall receive. Take a close look at Policy Letter 07-00, page 2.
I had several items to clean up on my MMC, so I went through Holly Chetta. She has a history of setting those coal miners in WV straight, and her fee was very reasonable.
