Where is the reference that says that someone who takes the 500/1600 ton mate exam in or after 2002 can upgrade to 3m/2m without further testing?

I went onto the NMC website and it appears they have removed all the policy letters from the regulations and codes page. Anyone else disturbed by this?

They are always there under the policy and guidance tab.

Have any of you actually done this? How about 500 ton NC to 3rd AGT NC?

I’m working on it now. They have no record that I ever tested for mate and were not aware of policy letter 11-07…

Capt. Phoenix, does that mean that you are working on getting the CG to allow you to do this, get 3rd on a 500 ton license? or prepping for the test?

Occasionally they are not. I’m not sure why, it’s apparently not intentional and quickly fixed when discovered. I’ve fouind that tab missing a couple of times.

They approved my upgrade without needing to test for 2M since I tested for 500 ton mate in 2008. If they say you need to, just explain to them that policy letter 11-07 says that you do not need to test for 3M/2M if you ashley tested for 500/1600 ton mate nc/ocean on or after 01 February 2002. (The exact quote is on page six.)

How did you meet the requirement for half your time being on a vessel over 1600 tons?

I didn’t. I will have a tonnage restriction of 2000grt / 4000gt.
