What are the steps from upgrading a 100ton master of near coastal to 200 mate near coastal?

Go to the NMC USCG website . Look under checklist to find out how to upgrade to 200T
take the master 200 NC exam, if you have the time you will get the master endorsement, if not you will get the mate.

To get a 200t master you need sail as a mate or master right?
Yep, the trick is your tonnage. as long as you have the sea time on deck your good. After running a year as 100 ton master/200 mate you can upgrade just with sea time.
