Who knows who has the best material for the 1600 ton master to 3rd mate AGT oceans upgrade. Would like to know who had the best luck with what books, software etc. looking for something not Internet based if possible. All information is thanked in advance.
Well the Murphy books are a good start. It’s got all the questions broken up into categories. A must have for all studiers.
If you got time go to fletcher and enroll on their program…talked to Capt. Bruce he will going to give you all the materials you need…
Went there and pass the Mate test for only 2 Weeks last time…
Go see George at Quality Maritime in St. Petersburg, FL. He has decades of experience, and helped me get my 500 Oceans. Would have been lost without him. He starts a new CG prep class every month. Every student has an individual curriculum prepared for you, based on your needs/weaknesses. He preps you for the CG exams, and then some.
MPT in Ft Lauderdale has a 3 week test prep class for $2K. The material provided, and the instruction was great. I was a student in September and just passed 1600ton master exam last week. Expensive but workedfor me.

Houston Marine Training in Kenner, LA has exam prep material “specific” for the exam you will be testing on. You can either study at the Kenner facility or get the package shipped to you. For 3rd Mate Unlimited, you will receive the books, charts, and flash drive with Q&A to help you prepare for the exam. Along with the package, you will be able to sit in our Coastal Plotting and Terrestrial Navigation classes at no additional charge. (You just have to meet the schedule we have with yours). You will still have to test at the CG REC, but those instructor led courses will get you better prepared for the plotting portions of the exam.
We are Coast Guard approved for Celestial Navigation (Oceans), which is a stand alone class. If you take the course with us, you will not have to take the 15 Q module at the CG.
Mention this email and I will offer you a 20% discount when you purchase the material. You can call or email me directly at 504-468-4445 or gvallon@houstonmarine.com
Thanks,
Gretchen
